Has the potential amount of odds on shots at this years Aintree put anyone off getting heavily financially involved in the races have done a few small multiples . I know the record of Cheltenham winners running at Aintree isn't great but these aren't normal horses from a normal yard some of them e.g Douvan, Annie Power, Vauotur , Thistlecrack (I know he is a Tizzard horse ) but they all look absolute machines! I feel this meeting I would like to sit back and enjoy some of the tremendous performances we should see What does everyone else feel and what are they gonna do ??
Woolly I have self-excluded from my online betting account for 6 months directly after Cheltenham. I'm rubbish on the flat anyway and I can never get Aintree right. I agree the 4 horses you mention look different class and I am looking forward to seeing them in action without any great financial involvement. I will be in England for the Friday and Saturday so will enjoy the novelty of placing bets in cash at the local Ladbrokes. How novel
Forty runners, thirty fences... the one race of the year where you really should ignore tips... Well, do not shoot the messenger, because I have been told the Grand National winner: The Last Samuri If there is a tip going around for it, I expect that it will be favourite by Saturday as it is currently 10/1 second best. Quite ironic that the friend who told me this is going to Market Rasen this weekend but has no information for that card!
My 4 against the field are: Buywise Shutthefrontdoor The Last Sumari La Reve Wouldn't begrudge Many Clouds winning though. Considering he has been specifically aimed at the GN this year he must have a serious chance. I'm only avoiding him beacause I'm assuming it can't be that easy
I actually had a dream last night that i was watching the National and a horse beginning with H beat Many Clouds home
stick, will you be seeing Harry before the GN? If so could you wish him all the best from us (in particular Amanda; they used to compete against each other in ponies). We'll be cheering for him.
I wouldn't begrudge Many Clouds going in again but at 8/1 I won't be burdening him further with my cash. There seems to be a lot of love for The Last Samurai but I can't see it at all. He takes forever to get from one side of an obstacle to the other so he wouldn't be for me. Again it would be great for his trainer though who won this donkey's years ago. My 2 are The Romford Pele at 50s to bring some joy at the end of a pretty ordinary season for the lovely Rebecca. Wouldn't want too much give but I have the feeling they've campaigned this one with the big un in mind all season. The other is Ballycasey at 80s for the Mullins/Ricci combo. He only got to the 8th last year but had barely touched a twig before colliding with Balthazar King at the Canal Turn. 10st 6lb too this time. Can't be ignored.
Is your friend a bookmaker I agree tips for the grand national are irrelevant! Many horses are primed and aimed for the race let alone actually getting a clear run
Hi Wooly, I have been going to Aintree (my local course) for years. I used to go on a Friday but about 6 years ago moved to the Thursday ( due to the crowds) which is now by far the best day's racing. This year I will again be there with my two sons having a few beers and enjoying the racing. As you say more of a watching brief than a betting day. For me it's always been about being with my boys and having a good day, this year I will probably not spend as much as I won't be betting against many of the favourite's. This year the national has a different interest for us, as one of my brothers friend's has two running, both with the lovely Rebecca. As you would expect both are said to be fit and well.
No idea I don't see Barneys posts. Looked through and there's a few horses beginning with H. I'll wait for final field and see if there's any actually worth backing
Ron, my sister will be putting the saddle on and helping his lad Luke lead him up. I will tell her to pass your best on to Harry who I have to say is a cracking lad. With such close involvement we have had with the horse I will of course be financially and emotionally willing the horse on. If its not to be him then I think the winner will come from Silviniaco Conti, who has taken the dangled carrot, Many Clouds who is in light for a previous winner and Bishops Road who is in off a scandalously low weight (providing we have one non starter).
A relative of mine worked in a bookie's joint for a while and he told me that they rarely if ever made a profit on the GN. Seems every man, woman, and their dog had a bash. Didn't matter what the result was, someone was bound to have backed the winner, often at long odds. The bookie was happy to finish-up more or less even, and hope that his customers enjoyed the outing. Lady Luck really plays a role in this event. For example, the 1992 winner, Party Politics, was lucky not to be brought down by Brown Windsor at the 6th fence during this renewal. As told by jockey Carl Llewellyn, only the horse's athleticism by moving his feet in flight to avoid the prone body of the fallen horse prevented him being brought down. Went on to be a very worthy winner, I'm glad to say!
Thanks stick. If he has trouble remembering Amanda tell him that when she got first and second in one event, Harry rode in the second for her prize giving
Against the field: Many Clouds 8/1 ew (sure to be placed if he finishes) Gilgamboa 50/1 Rule the World 50/1 The Druids Nephew 25/1 Conti won't stay.
