No announcements, but Charlton Life has now got a rumour, and apparently confirmed, that work has stopped on the Sparrows Lane ground improvements project. Could be Roland realises a lot of potential youngsters won't want to come to the academy now we are headed for league 1, and given the way the youngsters have been thrown in at the deep end this season to cover the gross mismanagement of the squad. But that would be very short sighted for someone who claims to be here for the long run. Surely he knows he can flick us back up to the Championship with one crack of his herculean mind? So maybe the protests at the sponsors meeting (the one that the guys in that executive box who dressed up as Pinocchio were'nt invited to) and ongoing protests st home matches are filtering through to the bunker. And the rich guy retaliates. I notice this hasn't turned up on my Facebook page, unlike the goal that Reza scored at Leeds two years ago today (FFS Charlton, do you think I'll forget the league table or Reza's stats as a striker for the sake of one well taken but isolated goal) but given recent announcements by the club, I'd see this as part of the undeclared war they are waging against the 2%. Say what you like about CARD, the club are not enjoying the protests, and the message is getting home!
Not sure this can be credited to CARD - the furthest the project ever got was wood being delivered many months ago. Nothing happened since from what I know.
If I were planning the works (I'm a Surveyor by trade but this is common sense) I'd phase them so as to limit disruption to the training ground during the season. From memory the works were quite big (new build?) so carrying them out in the close season may not be possible. There are tons of reasons for works to have stopped though; I had a contractor threaten to suspend works last week because of late payment for example.
Loved the Private Eye cartoon of a Korean couple in a restaurant. He's got a little dog (cooked) on his plate and he's tipping ketchup on to it. His wife's saying "You'll spoil that dog". Appealed to me anyway.
Its just more attention seeking from CARD, planted once again on their favourite compliant website Charlton Life. (Remember that vacuous trip to St Truiden - the reactions on CL in the aftermath were reminiscent of the infamous elephant scene in GRIMSBY) It all helps to keep certain people in the spotlight - has Prague Addick been back on Talksport lately ? Who elected him, BTW ? Were they postal votes, as he lives 2,000 miles away from the Valley? Junk like this all keeps those lovely CARD donations rolling in too don't forget, and in Chairman Rick's own words to me, gives the impression that the CARD Politburo are "doing something".
That was nothing to do with CARD. And what's wrong with taking the fight to Belgium anyway? Credit where it's due.
CL yes, CARD no. I think CARD jumped on the bandwagon afterwards. One problem we have with Roland is that he sits in his office in Belgium and leaves his minions to take the flak. Taking the fight to nearer home is a good tactic IMO. Mountain & Mohammed etc.
The first 3G pitch was completed about November time and the kids started using it just before Christmas, the second 3G pitch was finally completed about 2 weeks ago and the 9/10 year olds started using that about a week ago. The new training complex is to be built mostly on the old 5 a side pitch which is now vacant after the kids moved off it last week. I think it is a bit early to say if work has now stopped at Sparrows ..... I haven't seen any wood arriving?
You're thinking of @SuperChrissyisfantasticPardswasatrocious about a year ago. I personally think she looks like Chris Langham.
Oi - I've never seen the attraction to KM!! I'm prepared to go down two years worth of posts to back this up
