Serious question here. If the two biggest clubs in scotland were to merge, how would you all feel about it. My reasoning is simple. Your fans are too OTT, and making death threats to opposing players and managers is stupid, and if i'm honest, pathetic. You don't see it in other derbies, so why should it happen there.

Theres also an added bonus of a performance boost. If celtic and rangers were to merge, you'd have a glasgow team actually competent enough to compete in europe, and this would improve scottish football, and it's reputation globally.

On the negative, there would be a loss of each individual club's proud histories, and i imagine it would be difficult for two sets of fans, who were previously akin to warring tribes, actually getting along. There is also the loss of identity in scottish football. Instead of the same 2 clubs always fighting over the title, the same team would win year in year out.

I want to know your view on this idea. Like i said at the start, this is a serious idea, so i would like some serious answers. Constructive criticism is a good thing.

I'm cautiously in favour of a merge, but in the interests of fairness, i shall treat it as a neutral

Both clubs have some really good fans who will happily talk footie all day with you.

However, the worst both have to offer deserve each other.

Simplistic solution to an evidently serious problem.

Let's throw them both together! That won't cause any fights, boycotts, protests, break away clubs or mass disorder will it?

    ****ing ingenious.

What's your solution to World hunger?

    Make a big cake? <laugh>

You may laugh, but think about it logically. Not all of the fighting is caused by religion. Some of it is because of the rivalry between the teams. So if all the fan's are supporting the same team, why would they fight. I was going to suggest abolishing religion, but that may be going too far.

Even if that was true, that there wasn't any Religious or political hatred in the Old Firm at all (<laugh>) do you seriously believe that two of the biggest rivals in the World would happily join forces with their bitter arch enemies? <doh>

There'd be break away clubs like I said. And that'd just be the begining. It'd travel over to other clubs, like Linfield, Donegal Celtic etc...

It's a problem. Find the baddies and lock them up. No need for bizzare, ill-though and unrealistic plans and suggestions...

Not if the SFA refused to allow them to do it.

Mind you though, the SFA were held to ransom by a bunch of referees. Like i said though it's only an idea. I welcome constructive criticism.

    Read my edit.

And why would the SFA ban people creating new clubs? It'd go into Junior football etc...

I add my full support to this notion, it is obviously necessary if we want scottish football to progress, maybe for once, a team that isnt from ****ing glasgow will be in europe, maybe someone good like Queen of the South or Cowdenbeath.

Also, as one wise sir mentioned, if this fails to work, the next solution, a plan b as it were, has to be to nuke Glasgow, it's the only way round it.

Then, if somehow that ceases to work, we just remove both the clubs and give all their players to Queen of the South, apart from the **** ones like Lee McCulloch and Charlie Mulgrew.

Nah, nuking glasgow would be a bad move. I'd save those nukes for use on North Korea

Nah, i'm a serious sort of person. This is a serious article. I'm bored to tears of all the fighting between the fans. I've just been on the rangers board, and theres a celtic fan writing ****e about every rangers fan.

    No they shouldn't merge.

In the same way that Newcastle & Sunderland, Man Utd & Man Citeh, Liverpool & Everton, Sheffield United & Sheffield Wednesday etc... It's just plain not going to happen.

The rivalry will never pass and why should it?

****ing stupid idea: merging the leagues would make much more sense, though the logistics of accomplishing this to the satisfaction of all would be a nightmare.
