Well, a Post Match Day Thread actually..............

An unchanged side today. 1-0 win to Pompey, with a goal in the second half from Michael Smith.

First half wasn't too exciting, as we couldn't really get into the game. Carlisle weren't much better.

Second half, we came out much improved, and thoroughly deserved the 3 points. We had 20 shots - 7 on target.

Kyle Bennett won man of the match. Good performances also from Christian Burgess, Gary Roberts, and Adam McGurk (in the first half).

With Plymouth losing at Exeter, and Accrington drawing at home to Cambridge, we are now 5 points behind those two and Bristol Rovers (who beat Crawley at home), with a game in hand over them.

Can we still achieve automatic promotion ? Who knows, eh ?!

Tbh, I'd rather go up via the play-offs than as second or third. But second or third would be substantially less stressful.

Only my second game of the season, and my second win of the season. The tannoy guy also played my requested song prior to kick off (Wake Me Up by Avicii).

The right result but apparently showed the thin line between 3 points and the draws and losses we have suffered this season due to late goals against. Apparently Carlisle missed too late sitters despite our overall superiority.
Hopefully this is the start of a good run in to the end of season

Good Evening pompeydownunder. Carlisle only had one shot on target in the match. They basically came to Fratton Park for a draw.

I just hope we can maintain our form, and keep winning.

I was there yesterday, we were poor for most of the game. . . . . The only reason we won the game was because Carlisle were worse! Roberts had a terrible game, so did hollands, bennet was motm and worthy of it. Smith did ok but he will never score lots of goals playing with his back to goal!
yesterday summed up our season, lucky for the most. Lacklustre in the main.

At least you got your 3 points yesterday. We were winning after 80 minutes and managed to grasp defeat from the jaws of success once more in our illustrious history. By the time we come to Fratton Park I'd bet we will be going for a result and not a drawn one either. Tell you what pompeylampras you can have your date at Wembley anytime. I'd much rather get 3rd place than that so don't forget to tell your players that if you please.

I'm amazed SB3 isn't all over his private thread today given the angst being shed on the "Scummers" board. There must be at least a dozen pages of posts moaning about being robbed by the Ref. Think they have forgotten how **** the Refs are down at this level. Personally I've developed quite a liking for Foxes.

Well, I'd pick 3rd place over losing in the play-off final, Wembley or not. I've already experienced defeat in two play-off finals, I would rather not make it three!

Plus, Wembley is more an American Football Stadium to me, rather than a football stadium.

I've only ever been to Wembley twice in my life. Both the old Wembley. The first was a 3 v 6 celebration match when we joined the EU in 1973 or 74 when I was at Northwood in the RN. The second was Argyle's playoff final back in 1996. Have I mentioned Argyle are undefeated at Wembley? I've stayed at the Hotel opposite the ground but wasn't there for a final of any sort and there were no matches it was just a cheap stay over for a few days in London with my daughter and her family. I don't like the place much at all as I think it's quite souless. I'd take it as a last resort if I had to though but I think Argyle would bottle any play off and wouldn't make it in the first place. When it really matters this team doesn't turn up.

I've been to the old Wembley once for the 1999 or 98 charity shield between Arsenal and Man U and new Wembley for the 2008 FA Cup final, England v Belgium in 2012 (a friendly), and 7 NFL games:

Minnesota Vikings v the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2013

Miami Dolphins v Oakland Raiders, Detriot Lions v Atlanta Falcons (which was an imense match), Dallas Cowboys v Jacksonville Jaguar in 2014

New York Jets v Miami Dolphins, Buffalo Bills v Jacksonville Jaguars and Kansas City Chiefs v Detroit Lions last year.

I wouldn't say Wembley is particularly soulless, but it is kinda... closed, it feels very tightly enclosed imo. Maybe that's because I'm not used to stadia with a capacity above 20k

I take it you are a fan of the yankee equivalent then. Can't say I get the point of that game if honest. It seems a kind of easy to do Rugby which stops every 30 seconds maximum for half the team to change around. As long as there is a lot of scores it doesn't matter about anything else and the Yanks are happy. Each to their own I guess though.

I love American Football! I used to think it was just rugby with padding and breaks every few seconds but once you get to understand the rules, it is extremely tactical. Each play is different, and can involve a range of strategies implemented by different the different players on the offense. For example, some players might run in a particular way to act as a decoy, meanwhile the O-Line blocks the defence and tries to create a gap in the defense for for the running back while one wide receiver will run a particular route, while another wide receiver will run another route, which could result in one of them getting out open. At the same time, the defense needs to counter the movements of the wide receivers, or ensure the running back doesn't find a gap in the defence or tackle the quarter back and not get caught out. Even though a play may be short, there is a lot happening. I've heard American Football referred to as a game of chess played between the two head coaches with human pieces.
