I said at the time of his appointment that Klopp was the only coach out there who I could see turning you into a force again. The real problem, however, is Ian Ayre and his band of merry men up in the ivory towers who somehow manage to screw up every promising transfer deal in lieu of overspending on dross. One of the key shifts in focus at Spurs last summer was that after Baldini was shown the door, we all expected Levy to once again increase his control over transfer dealings as had been the norm until then if we didn't have a DOF in place. However, it seemed pretty clear from the way we went about our business that Poch had been granted more of a say than any manager I can remember in the PL era - more so even than Redknapp. The speed at which we concluded the Alderweireld, Wimmer and Trippier deals when strengthening the defense was Poch's stated goal as early as May was telling. Beyond that, selling Capoue, Kaboul, Chiriches, Soldado and Paulinho all at a loss was an incredibly un-Levyish thing to do. To clear our so much deadwood in one window was unprecedented considering how long the likes of Bonjani Khumalo and David Bentley were able to hang around like farts in a lift. The lateness of the Son deal, the drama of the Berahino deal and then the botch-up this January indicate that Levy hasn't yet fully handed over the reins, but enormous steps have clearly been taken in the right direction.
My feeling is that Klopp needs to be granted absolute control of funds in order to build the team that he wants. There's no point hiring one of the most highly-regarded coaches on the planet, then leaving him at the mercy of a frankly inept board. I just don't know if he's done enough to prove himself yet mate, I've got to be honest with you. Things definitely look better than they did under Rodgers, but has he done enough?
I think hes done as expected so far, asses the current squad and identify who needs to go and where we need strengthening, top4 was possible when he arrived but our inconsistent form and average players put that to bed quickly, i feel the speed at which he can turn us around will depend on how many he can get rid of this summer window, and who comes in, he already has the young midfielder and matip signed combined for around 3.5m, getting rid of balotelli will be near impossible imo, ive a feeling he will be loaned out til he runs down his contract tbh, others like allen, skrtel, benteke, studge, hendo and tbh loads more are all on offer i would guess after what klopp has seen of them.
Ive no doubt fsg will back klopp with funds, and Ayre is off soon and i am hoping that they have learnt their lesson with this ridiculous transfer committee ****e that's served us so well the last few years lol
Top4 next year would be nice, but realistically that depends on the business done this window, no doubt the team will be much more prepared for klopps type of football after a pre season, next year i would personally expect a vast improvement in consistency and a definable brand of football, that with a few new heads and a few gone should have us at least mounting a serious challenge for top4.
There is very little chance klopp wont improve us so im quite relaxed about what hes doing tbh, or maybe we become so rubbish ive become numb to it
