Was crap first time around and would be if signed again but is 7 in 39 that bad considering at 36 he won't have played many minutes in those games and playing in a struggling team all season?,
I bet that stands up well against anyone we have apart from Abel.

He's scored 28 in 95 for Bristol, a decent enough return for a player of his type- but the point was not so much his goals but the type of player he is who holds the ball up and gets stuck in to the big central defenders.

Chuba and Akpom just bounce off em, and we lose the ball.

He won't be signed again but we needed a player in his mould this season.

I have asked many times what a "Hold-Up-Player" is supposed to do and have received a plethora of answers but none explanatory.
The 'wiki' explanation is as follows: "A play where an attacker retains possession of the ball, while the teammates can move up the field".
I haven't seen any of our attackers hang on to the ball for more than 2 seconds nor have I seen any player 'moving up the field'!
What is the technical term given to a player who gets the ball, moves up the field and has a shot on goal because I haven't seen one in our team for yonks!<confused>

P.S. For all those of you who were spouting off about Jay Simpson and his record of 22 goals in 30 games for Leyton Orient -he has since scored 1 in the last 12 (and missed 2 penalties).

A hold up player is one that feigns injury or delays returning the ball when a team is winning and wanting to run down the clock. <ok>

He's had no shortage of minutes, he's been their first choice for much of the season, he started 23 of those 39 games, that's why they're 19th. <laugh>

Mark Noble was one of the worst loanees we ever had.

I'm not saying Albie is any good or worth considering, just you can never tell. Some players are ****e and then become great.

Didn't Noble pick up a back injury before his first game with us?

That was what was said at the time but if he was injured then why was he playing? I worked at the club at the time and always thought he didnt want to be here.

I'm flattered that you think of me so often. I can't say it's reciprocated.

Had I noticed it, I would have commented myself, but I would probably have been too busy sorting out a new irony meter as that post of yours would have broken mine.

Aye, that certainly seemed to be the vibe. The bad back rang hollow.

Keep going mate. He made a difference and we have needed someone like him in our team all bloody season. Probs not him but point well made.

Considering we only play with one striker anyway, who would this striker hold the ball up for?

Also, most of our goals come from crosses, there's no need for a hold up striker.

If what you are imagining is something akin to Elmos set up play yesterday for Aluko, then just get Elmo to do it.
