A good performance. This team should not be in the position we are, it just shows how Roland's stubborn insistence on standing by his interim manager for so long has damaged the club. I wonder how many of the players who gave good performances will still be with us next season? One clue is when you compare the way Texeira was mobbed by the whole team when he scored to the muted celebration when JBG scored. In fact Harriott, who laid the ball on, completely ignored him. I quite enjoyed the 4-minute Roland-Out chant while the stress balls were being cleared, but that tactic has had its day now. For now there is a focus on supporting the team, who looked like a proper Charlton team today, and as long as that continues Roland and his henchpersons will get a short undeserved respite.
CARD gave out balls to throw onto the pitch- the Club alerted the stewards, who began over zealous searches. A couple of the Hi Viz Army fancied themselves as storm troopers, and started to provoke arguments. Plenty of anecdotes on Twitter about a few of the twats in the Covered End. The same old adage about giving stupid people a bit of power.....
Happiness and frustration in equal measure really. We won, and it sounded as if we deserved the win and played reasonably well. Then you look at the table and think that thanks to the Karel Fraeye appointment, a squad that should have acheived mid table mediocrity as a minimum, will almost certainly go down. The idiot regime have a lot to answer for. This could have been so different if RD had recognised his limited idea of football and listened to ecperts. But that's not the man he is. A bit of criticism here and there about the protests, but you need to keep them going and not let ideas grow stale, so yesterday was okay by me.
Yesterday was the proverbial case of 'too little, too late'. We are totally reliant now on Fulham collapsing. It is a laughable state of affairs. Something still doesn't smell right about the way Lookman is being handled - why is he being wrapped in cotton wool when we need to win every game. His pace and guile upsets Championship defences. After a decent performance at Brentford, sad to say that "One good game in five" Harriott has reverted to type. P.S: I think is is very safe to say that Stephen Henderson will be leaving Charlton this summer.
It's quite possible that Hendo told the Club that he did not want to play in L1 (I can see his leaving on a free this summer even though he will have 12 months on his contract) so JR has probably been told to play Pope in the hope that he will sign a new contract.
1. Henderson 'liked' on Twitter various Tweets from fans criticising the Belgian regime. 2. Henderson was dropped for the Brentford game - his injury was then described by Riga as a dead leg, an injured finger, then a groin strain. The Regime can't even get their lies right Henderson walked down the touchline yesterday, a few fans clapped him and others tried to talk to him - he looked very p1ssed off.
Another área riven my mismanagement. Henderson and his misterious injury all went a bit under the radar, but something has gone wrong there. We convinced JBG to stick with us as we were building a squad bound for the prem, and stopped signing players son after he renewed. The list of por signings this season (Sarr, McAleny, Johnson, Ceballos) added to the likes of Reza, suggest collosal mismanagement, but now we are bound for league 1, we look as if we will lose all our quality players. I actually think keeping a core of Henders, Pope, Teixeira, Cousins, Diarra, Kashi, the Harriots and Lookman, and sensibly builing on that, might yet mean we could at least make a fist of trying to bounce back, but that rather ignore's the recruiment qualities the regime have shown. The idea of what may turn up at Sparrows lane this summer is frightening. Plus RD is about to find that the academy players don't bring in so much dosh when relegation is written on the Wall, and the core will generally want out. Bunglers from top to bottom, and it's why I'll keep backing CARD and the protests. We won yesterday, and the tensión balls apart, the only real protest was the lack of customers in the home sections. Don't buy beer at the Valley, don't line RD's pocket, and keep protesting.
These figures fool no-one, except possibly Roland who has no idea what The Valley looks like on matchday anyway. His henchpersons can feed him false figures for the attendances, but not for S/T sales. The number of S/T holders who don't bother to attend (as reflected in the discrepency between real attendance and reported attendance) probably gives a very rough idea of how many will not be renewing, not because of Card, but because as customers, they don't like the product on offer. Yesterday was a good performance, but next season's squad will be very different, God knows what it will be like, but as long as Roland is at the helm, the philosophy of the club won't change. More of the same next season.
It does seem, that Karel Fraeye, is the reason we go down! We won't get any answers for that @ken shabby. The person who kept him on sooo long deserves to be sacked.
3 wins in 5. Let's see how serious RD is about avoiding relegation. Go and get a couple loans in from the Premier League - individuals who will improve the starting 11, not fluff the squad.
A Charlton fan on another site called this "the most unnecessary Charlton relegation in our history". Pretty much spot on. Murray ran out of money and Slater and Jimenez went skint when Kevin Cash pulled out. Before that, Hulyer disappeared up the Thames on his speedboat thinking he was James Bond, and Glikstein preferred to spend his money on a new sheepskin. Duchatelet is absolutely loaded - Richard Murray's words, not mine. "Seriously rich" Yet we get the 3rd lowest playing budget in the Championship, and obstinate persistence with this pathetic cheapo Network experiment [players & coaches] when it was clear from Day.1 it would not work.
Inexplicably some still think it can work. please log in to view this image seriouslyred Season Ticket Holder please log in to view this image please log in to view this image please log in to view this image please log in to view this image please log in to view this image please log in to view this image 18 hours ago Spouting Rubbish likes this. The club is worth very little in League 1 so it stands to reason that it won't be sold until Championship status has been confirmed. And that will either be when we stay up or win promotion from League 1 in 12 months time. Peter Varney has not only leaked emails but has also appeared on several CARD videos. What he neglects to mention is that he was the CEO in charge when we had Dowie, Reed and Pardew getting relegated and that the losses after that relegation add up to £70M. The irony is that yesterday's leaflet refers to a string of inadequate coaches and players being appointed / acquired. And yet the "inadequate" Riga and "inadequate" squad have just delivered 10 points from five games! For sure the club have signed some poor players but you can't argue with our first 18 at this point in time. One could go into detail about changes made to the club since Varney left including a major sponsorship deal with UoG which is hardly a new institution or partner. But that's for another time / another thread. Right now we have two winnable away games coming up and if Riga delivers four points he will continue the 2 points per game trend and close the gap. Not only that but he will be on course to deliver survival. And the performances to achieve that will be the basis of a real challenge next season. Is VotV going to continue to describe that as "inadequate"? I expect they will but they won't have the league table and the fans' fear of relegation to leverage.
