I'm loving the show. Not just the mixing of nordic mysticism but also the early Christian equivalent.

Really? I thought Bjorn was prophesied to overshadow Ragnar (in the series) by the seer. I haven't looked into any of the history so you probably have a better idea than me what's going to happen.

Rollo was definitely a cool character, I think the cool part of him was his recklessness and aggression which is now gone as he's a sedate Duke. I want to see him smashing skulls together, not sitting back and making tactical plans, Ragnar was supposed to be the brains of the operation.

    Agree on Lagertha <ok>

    Yeah, Aslaug... enough said.

The one that has disappointed me the most this season is Floki. He was one of the best characters (IMO) for the first 3 seasons but this season he's just been so boring, moaning at every opportunity at least 3 different camera shots of him sulking and not saying much if anything at all.

It's the second son that's historically important but the third does his bit too...noticed he brought them with him this time.....

Rollo is the founder of Normandy.

Floki is another mythic character a sub God...watch for him vs Harbard...

    Aslaug is a harbinger

The irony of all this is that most of this history survives because of early Irish monks...

They brought the written language to us.

It's getting rid of their bias that's the issue.

Same with Irish pre history..like the Nordic people we had an oral tradition...stories passed over the fire and in song.

The Christiansame wrote it all down but changed things to suit themselves...it's why Ragnar became one person....he epitomises the viking threat...all the poor monks saw was the same boats hitting and killing them lol.

    <ok>

How far do you reckon they'll go though? Its hard to see the series carrying on once all of the original core (Bjorn, Lagertha, Floki, Rollo & possible Ecbert at a push) have gone because it just won't be the same series then?

Don't worry mate, It's very interesting stuff to me, at least. Always nice to learn things and the Vikings are probably amongst the most interesting people/part of history to learn about due to the amount they got around and the fact that history has them down as absolutely fearsome savages that everyone feared.

Without spoiling it for you..if they go the average 7 series which is a lifespan of a watched show...I think they'll go to just after Ragnar.. .but tbf to the series they seem comfortable killing main characters so..

I love it. And as you say the three main originals are the best actors...and you care about then.

Although I have a soft spot for Kwenthrith...

Watched 4 episodes of House of Cards. Pretty much mirrors the original. Spacey is always good and it's decently done. Not a game-changer, though. Will watch some more.

Good episode to finish the season, not perfect but worked, stretches the believability factor ... our players are mice in a cage for most of it, it's all a bit whistley for a while a la hunger games, Eugene does a very brave thing, Negan is top - decent to good actor - has a very long solo scene at the end and carries it off well ... 'Woah look at that, taking it like a champ!'

The guy with the 'tache ?? Never played that game, not big into consoles and gaming tbh

Having dwelled on it I'm actually disappointed in that episode, especially as a finale, it was pretty terrible thinking back for several reasons ... here's the spoilery bit. I was trying to like it initially but I'm not on board here, in fact that goes for the show in general for me in future I think ...

Another fecking needless cliffhanger after a season of them, first Glenn and Daryl, now we don't even know who we're cliffhanging for as we don't see who's head Negan caves in at the end ... I'm guessing it's not Glenn ... too obvious, and it's not Rick or Carl as he says he'll feed Carl's other eye to Rick if they move. I don't think it will be Maggie as they already had one pregnant woman get brutally murdered (Lori, remember that in the prison). So that leaves Abe, Eugene, Sasha, Daryl, Rosita and Michonne, oh and the Alexandria scouter guy whatshisface. Out of all of those the ones with no plot lines to tie up are probably Rosita, Eugene and Alexandria guy so they could kill any of them off without cutting off stories, the others are all involved in things with other characters that can be pursued. So they're my suspects for the Lucille treatment although they could pull a surprise and kill of a bigger character.

The structure of the episode and motives of the main characters in it was plain stupid, the way that they kept bundling cluelessly into every road block the Saviours set up was ridiculous and the Saviours knowing exactly where they were going to be at every turn was so unbelievable, especially when the surround them in the forest. That's a massive forest, so big they couldn't find an entire town in Alexandria so how they can pinpoint seven people I have no idea, unless they have watchers on their tale, which is never indicated, if that was the case the episode should have at least shown it.

Then there was the Morgan/Carol sub-plot. In the space of 2-3 episodes they've managed to undo all the good things about both characters and make me lose interest in the fate of either of them. Carol becoming so nihilistic and pathetic and Morgan forgetting all his principles to shoot down that guy for Carol, a character who in the past he has had a big conflict with and shouldn't have any motivation to save. If he's suddenly changed his position on her and respects her worldview now it's been handled badly by the writers as there's no indication that's the case.

As for the characters in general, I'm not particularly bothered about the fate of any of them anymore, who lives or dies is irrelevant. I'm not sure I'm that interested in watching any more of the show really as the exposition is so turgid and bogged down in unnecessary diversions. What was the point of about 60 minutes of that episode, they could've got across the fact they were cornered in about 10 and then got on with the introduction to the Saviours, Negans beating, the group reaction to that with no need for a cliffhanger as dedicated viewers will come back anyway to see how it plays out between Rick and Negan.
