Two words. "Against Saints" What I'm saying is that the word deliberate is pretty much nonsense. My earlier post before I'd seen anything of the game mentioned that I don't think hardly any pens are really "deliberate" handball. Most of them are where a player is said to have his arm away from his body or in an unnatural position. I really don't think many players who try and block a shot or cross are thinking, "If I can just get my hand in the way of this," or, " looks like I'll miss this with my leg, so I'll just use my arm instead" By that reckoning, there should be hardly any pens for handball. The issue is always interpretation. I find it worrying when I read someone like Tom who referees regularly being so adamant and matter of fact over the Simpson one. It doesn't get given, that happens, but to be so belligerent in it not even being a possibility is very odd. No one knows if Simpson meant to move his arm forward to the ball or not. His arm does move forward towards it but who can say it was deliberate or not. The fact his body was behind his arm is irrelevant too.
Well I'm glad it's over so we can move on. Well done Leicester, let's enjoy your achievement now as well as finishing as strongly as we can ourselves.
Perhaps they should have been penalties, perhaps not, but given this result gets Leicester closer to the league title, surely you must concede that your loss was for 'the greater good'. I know I would, in the circumstances. please log in to view this image [/
We do PL because we don't want Spuds winning it and we just like a good row. Where you been? Got a girlfriend?
I wouldn't mind Spurs winning as they haven't won it in ages, but Leicester winning would be amazing. Kind of. The problem being I've never actually met her and she lives in Pennsylvania. How's things on the south coast?
As if those rules are processed perfectly through these refs' heads when they see handball calls! Week in, week out, we see those shouts being given, and other obvious hand-to-ball shouts clearly not given/ignored. Whether or not the Saints calls were to the letter or not, the fact is, both those type of handballs are given as pens all the time, and we were robbed to not get given one of them.
I'm content with the fact that it wasn't given, for the simple reason that penalties for handball are unquestionably the worst thing in the world. Further, I would propose the following alterations: For deliberate handball: a penalty is awarded. Additionally, the player is presented with a plaque to commemorate this one-in-a-generation occurrence. For negligent handball, where the player denies a goalscoring opportunity, or is flailing his arms around like an idiot: just a penalty. For negligent handball, which doesn't have any profound impact on the outcome: an indirect free kick from the spot of the incident. IFKs from inside the box are a lot of fun, and barely ever happen, so let's turn all of those jammy little all-or-nothing penalty appeals into something good. For instances where the player gets hit in the chest from roughly six inches away, yet the whole crowd demands a penalty anyway: points deduction for the team whose fans demanded the penalty.
None' is short for Not one or no one. Now say the line fully. Not one of us is perfect or No one is perfect. Just because we've all grown up saying, none of us are perfect doesn't mean that's correct. Fran's version is.
Players have missed almost entire careers and haven't even been injured. As for Jay, I'm sure the £40K per week helped him during the road back once he knew he'd play again.
If it was any other team than Leicester City, especially any of the usual suspects, I'd be mortified. As it is, if we have to be sacrificed on the altar of the greater good then so be it, and Leicester just bloody well have to win the title. I don't want this loss wasted.
Missed the game as I was on a flight to Delhi. Landed on time to see the last hour of the T20 Final; not a good sporting day...
After re watching the handball incidents on sky, I actually think the 1st one was defiantly a pen.....Simpson swings his arm to deflect the ball.......however we are Saints and don't get given such decisions.
I've seen them given, I've seen them not given. End of for me... The frustration I have is caught up in some distinctly average performances again from individuals who need to performing at a much higher level more often. Ultimately across a season, we'll finish where we deserve to based on performances across the season. We've had some stand out individual performances (Frasers return, Martina starting the rot vs Arsen-hole and the Liverpool comeback from Vic and Manè) but there have been poor shows too (Vics 3 red cards, Manès form drop off/head being turned, Pellès multiple flicks, Tadic being too lightweight) I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Europe happens for us, not for the games, but in order to keep Ronko.
