Having a 'finite' budget really means nothing. Nobody has an infinite transfer budget, not even Real Madrid, so its really weird to claim that we are keeping Mignolet because we have a finite budget.

Most journos that have spoken about Klopp's budget seem to be saying he has a pretty substantial budget to improve the team with.

From what I understand Mignolet earns as much as Reina did, so if that is the case, it is a false argument.

How can we believe what we're told when we were fed the line Suarez was sold for £75 mill when in fact it was for £64.5 mill?

These days I think a budget is very flexible anyway. If we had a budget of £50m, spend £40m of it then someone like Goetze became available for £15m they'd find the money to go get him.

Like it's been in the past they'll probably have a rough number in mind and then sales will obviously be a deciding factor.

I I think the board have to back him to a certain degree though and I'm sure that would have been part of the conversations when he took over.

Id imagine it was something like back me this summer to redevelop the squad and then Each year after I'll add to it slowly rather than having to revamp every year which is what we seem to have done and been calling for for that last 15 years!!

buy he wasnt on the same wage when reina was here was he, he has now got an improved contract, so yes now he prob is on similar wage to what reina was on.

sadly one justified that wage ie had us top 4 and cl football etc the other is just average.

Plus 100k now isn't as much as 100k was 4 years ago... Gerrard was earning 150k in his prime for example, now he'd be on 200k

    Exactly.
    Really simple

Reina is gone quite a time and when he signed his deal he was a cl player at a cl club.

Today people are giving deals in advance of TV deal to minimise the eventual cost.

For example had we not paid him now he could walk in and say the test are on 150k.. come on where's mine.

Same as gotze. Sign him and don't be shocked he's on 180k or more a week.

It's tv money. It runs in one end and right out the other.

Telly has a lot to answer for IMO, Sky and its big money bucks. That and BT Sport. Want to **** off and mind their own soddin' business. F1 is going the same way. It's a bloody disgrace!

Fair do's, but it's more than I earn in a year. It's still not to be sniffed at and that's the point, Joe Public as a whole won't see it in terms of inflation. For what he earns Mignolet should be better than he is; and he isn't.

It's not normal inflation. It's football inflation, go back 6/7 years 100k is what top players were earning... nowadays, top players get 200k a year.

100k is equivalent of £50k a few years ago.

Doesnt matter what sort of inflation it is. Vardy's on what, £80 k plus? And Leicester are about to swan off with the title.

Please don't tell me it doesn't matter who earns what in that context because it does. We've thrown money at our problems for years and where has it got us? Nowhere, because we've spent it on bang average ****e like Mignolet.

  11. It really bugs me when people use players like Vardy or Mahrez as examples of what you can get for next to nothing. How often does that actually happen? When was the last time someone like Leicester won the league?

We see similar things every year; people pointing at the unexpected star performers and asking why we didn't sign them. Hindsight eh...

It's easy to point at these sorts of things but it's not the reality. Those players are the abnormal situations.

If it was that easy every club would be doing it!

Good thing about Leicester winning the title is that, you don't need all stars players to win it.

That isn't what I said. I never once said we should have signed either of them because until this season I didn't know them. What I'm highlighting is what we've spent money on to try and claw back what we won 26 years ago. There are comparisons because the expectation has been too high and some of our players have been unable to cope with it. Benteke, especially. Carroll is another example.

It seems Leicester were runners up in 1928-29 and OK this season looks like being their time. I admire them and hope they do it, but I'm sorry I also resent it a bit. Another season for us to wait in the wings when everyone shouts, 'You have to spend money on players.' Well, we do but we spend on the wrong players. Leicester have kicked the big spend theory in the bollocks and they've made us, City, Chelsea, Scum, Arsenal and Spuds all look like tits this season. It hasn't been in the script.

Not that it's difficult for the latter to be made tits of.

  14. I never said you said we should sign them. You used Vardy as an example when talking about Migs wages.

Zero resent from me. Fair play top them. We deserve to be where we are. You don't waste as much money as we have and win leagues, even with a Suarez in the side!

People make the point about players like Vardy, Mahrez and the like but there is part of it down to the fans too. Everyone would complain if we spent £1m on Vardy as our only striking option in a transfer window and relied on him to score goals for us throughout the season. Or if instead of getting high profile players like Lallana, Benteke etc. we signed Mahrez from the french 2nd divsion as our new winger. If they didn't settle down after a few games people would start hounding them on twitter and their confidence would be shot in a few games.

I don't resent or begrudge Leicester the title, I resent the situation. It might be another 80 years before they win it again. Of course they haven't won it yet.

Just wondering when we're going to win it again! If ever.

i think the manager they have deserves credit as well, not just players.

must admit i didnt know much about leicesters setup to this season, but would they be where they are with a dif manager? ie get the same out of those 2 players?

an experienced manager helps sometimes, and we went for brendan ffs lol.

  19. Exactly. Look how long it took the likes of Kuyt, Lucas and Hendo to win people over and they didn't come from as low down as Mahrez.

Origi was written off prior to this season. He'd not even played a game for us!

Same for Ings but people refer to Vardy who came from lower down the leagues!

  20. I think it shows that a genuine team is better than quality individuals. Obviously having a gem or two in there helps too.
