Tom I agree the Simpson handball claim is debatable, I have seen them given and not given...........but Huths is 100% pen.
If that is the rule, why on earth did Clattenburg give the pen about 3-4 weeks ago when the defender had completeyturned this back on the ball and there was no arm movement to the ball I am for following the laws of the game, but ALL the time and that does not seem to be the case
Tom, I actually agree with you about the penalty calls but at this point I think you need to let it go.
I think their is a generation thing to this as well. When I was playing as a boy(which is about the time Ron was a professional), I conceded a penalty in somewhat similar circumstances. The ref told me that I had made no attempt to get my hand out of the way. Now perhaps the wording of the rules has changed since the early 90s, but I sympathise with Rons viewpoint, because in that situation the defender should be getting his arms away from the ball, but he made no attempt to do so. We would have missed the pen anyway
Thinking about, Saints still have a chance on that top four finish Sir Joe Root in the next honours list
And that is where the problem arises. As supporters it is no longer clear what should be given and what should not. Different ref, different game and you get a different outcome
I think the 1st one was a pen.if you look very close you can see that as mane hits the ball, the speed of the defenders arm changes slightly so it meets the ball but still looks like natural movement of the are.very well done i might add
