Simon Mignolet please log in to view this image Some time, he is hot and cold. Next season 2016/2017 is going to be the full season of Jürgen Klopp when people are going judge him more. Simon just signed another contract. Sometime he is not predictable Yesterday he prevented Tottenham from walking away with all the points.
He made some class saves yesterday but he causes so much panic by staying rooted to his lines - there were a few occasions when the defence expected him to come out and collect the ball and he was delayed. Keep him as a number 2 and I expect another GK to come in the summer.
To be fair to him I don't think those balls were really his. I don't expect a keeper to come out of his box to get the ball unless he's playing sweeper while we're up the pitch. If a defender is there and an opponent is lurking I expect the defender to just deal with it if it's outside the box. Having said all of that, Mig suffers from the same problem as most of our defenders- they can be excellent for long periods then make catastrophic mistakes. What marks out any defender is not how good he can be, but how few mistakes he makes.
Read what Klopp said about him. He gave him 5 year deal. Irrespective of any views this is what counts. I do expect to see one bought. Too many Germans supposedly itK have said this.
If we buy another GK it has to be someone who steps straight into the first team place, puts Mignolet on the bench, pisses off Mignolet then Mignolet goes **** this I'm off. He has more cons than pros IMO. We all know contracts aren't worth the papyrus they're scribed on. We gave Suarez a 5 year contract and he ****ed off the next season.
we are not going to buy another keeper to compete with him as we got rid of reina to save wages. its either sell him to get a better no 1 or hope for a better backup keeper. sadly that what i see as our only options.
We got rid of Reina because he wanted to go. He was pushed before he could jump, that's all. I agree that it's highly unlikely we could accommodate two high-profile keepers.
he should be used to being backup. he was first choice at sunderland ffs and where are they? now whos prejudice is blinding there judgement?
It was tongue in cheek - I do think we'll bring in a keeper to start. If Migs doesn't want to be back up, then he'll go and I presume we'll have Danny Ward as the back up?
We need a do it all, multi-dimensional keeper. Mignolet is not that. We all know he has his better areas and points and what they are, but he is nowhere near being the complete package. Klopp should have been working on identifying a keeper who is to bring in over summer then either Mignolet drops down to No. 2 and works to improve and regain his place or leaves. I can't see him improving much now, he's been with us for 3 years and is essentially still the same keeper we bought back in 2013, no significant advancements or changes in his play, plus he's 28 so beyond the true phase of development of a young player and should be into his prime. He's not good enough
That we have a finite budget this summer and will likely have to make do with most of the players we have at the moment?
Klopps first proper window and out net spend has hardly been huge last couple years... Can see them backing him this summer and saying, get your players in this year with the hope that the following years we just add to it rather than needing another overhaul. Think will prob see another 4/5 come in in addition to Matip and Grujic.
