There was no breathing space for him today as the midfield was too compressed. Fer impressed me second half.
Player scores IMO Fabianski 6 Rangel 4 Fernández 5 Ash 7 Naughton 6 Leon 4 Fer 6 Cork 6 Routlage 7 Siggy 8 Gomis 3 Montero 9 Paloschi 8
The diamond only works with certain teams and is very limited in my view, and I always prefer us to use our natural wing play formation that gives us the width to stretch teams and get behind defences, something we have not done much this season, Monty has been missed, and today proved it, Routs had a great game, but Siggy was my MOTM for turning the game around, with help from Routs...........
Rangel has been poor for two seasons at least. He's been a fabulous player for us (particularly for the money we paid) but he's well past the sell-by.
Certain players for certain games mate and today was not for him, against Villa as you sad he changed the game.
Against Chelsea we will start with the diamond yet again. I have no doubt. We need 2 wingers from the start and for me 2 from Montero, Barrow or Routledge. They occupy full backs and make them think defence and not have the run of the width and not have to worry about a pacey winger going at them. As iit has been said it also helps in that it occupies the wide midfield players against us. I also believe it is better defensively as it gives us double coverage earlier. For all that we will go back to our diamond come Chelsea and hope to hold out for a point, it will fail and then we will actually go for it when we are behind. Mr Guidolin, we have nothing to lose, we are just about safe. For once JUST ****ING GO FOR IT,
sometimes the positives outweigh the negatives as I am sure you will agree, hope he starts next week and that lump of *&^%$ Gomis does not
I said last season that that should have been his last. It's clear to see, that while he gives his all, his legs have gone.
I am not so sure, but one thing is the players should be a little bit more relaxed, so may give us a good home performance, whatever negative formation he comes up with.
Chelsea's defence is old and slow. It's the perfect defence for Monty to rip them open again in the left. With him one side and Routs/Barrow the other side, we could batter them with our pace. Palo also done well when he came on. He's much, much better than Gomis and by pressing, chasing down defenders, he can help create space for Gylfi and our wingers.
