The West Hull village where I am it's ****ing appaling, and not as if its some sort of country backwater either
Just a missive - BBfN - Better Broadband for Norfolk = satellite broadband. Offering 2Mbps! Needs a dish. And the landlord in the 'Big House' won't even allow 'intruder' lights, attached to 'his' walls. (If you hear somebody shouting..............it'll be me.)
IWe have the little black boxes on the poles , have done for a month now but still no news of light stream being available , the website says March / April so hopefully not long to wait
i told you - my mate is installing the cabinets. without those, it doesn't matter what runs up to doorsteps. what else do you disagree with? i also told you i may not have got it all straight.
Well, I have to admit to being a bit of a stupid twat. I can already test the speeds simply by turning off my connection to KC wifi on phone and using the EE 4G instead..... Results are as follows (tested in the last few mins) using Sony Experia SP Android Phone (3 years old) Speed Using KC Connection WiFi = 1.65 Mb/s Speed Using EE 4G Connection = 18.04 Mb/s Ladies and gentlemen, we have a winner, and suprise suprise, its not KC
We have the little black boxes on the poles......... I thought this was some outrageous new UKIP policy for tracking immigrants.....
the point was that this: is essentially correct in the the 90,000 homes mentioned don't need individual attention before they can get lightstream.
That's roughly 36 MBps and upload of 13MBps isn't it? That's similar to what I get on karoo. I've tried checking different providers here, such as EE, O2 and another which I forget, and Karoo wazzed on them.
Apologies. That's actually an incredible speed. It must be a fibre to the Premises connection. I'm not aware of any other technology that can achieve anything like that. The stuff that Virgin normally use is similar to what much of America has. It's better than BT, Sky etc's 'fibre' but not a patch on full fibre.
Am I reading it all wrong then? (It's quite likely, as it's all magic to me) I get slower upload speeds, but certainly on an evening, I get similar Mbps download speeds. Or do I?
Your translation from Mbps to MBps may have been correct, but it's a needless one because speed is pretty much always measured in Mbps. Even when people verbally say megabytes, they generally mean megabits even if they don't know it. On a 'standard' connection in the UK you'd get no more than 1Mbps upload.
no need indeed. i prefer wired. it was only with the arrival of tablets and smart phones that i needed to bother with wifi. i'd had my main router 10 years before i enabled wifi on it. i'm hoping to get the lightstream within a few months. i've had 6Mbps but it's more like 4 now. i got by on 250Kbps and 500Kbps for long enough. my router might even become the limiting factor at some point
Who cares about speeds and wires when your providers throttles your connection anyway? Better off using your phone and tethering.
