I dont have any time for arguments based on statistics. They're so subjective it's unreal. Sturridge is a much better player than Defoe. He just is. Anyone in their right mind would tell you the same. That's why Sturridge is worth 30 million plus and Defoe never would be.
I hate Sturridge as a person but he's a good striker. Selfish, show-off prick but he and Suarez were formidable together. Don't let that Liverpool bias creep in
Sunderland would be relegated by now if they had Sturridge this season and not Defoe, what you say is also subjective and nowhere near as clear cut as you think it is. A fit Daniel Sturridge could be priceless to a team, but he's a liability and he's a player who I don't believe has ever put his team before himself.
Nothing to do with Liverpool bias, Suarez was 90% of that partnership, Sturridge is nowhere near the out and out striker you're pretending he is.
Don;t think Defoe should be ahead of Vardy or Kane mate - They're the 2 best English number 9's in the league at the minute (you could maybe take out the English there as well - although I hate Kane's diving! Still a class player though) Hodgson has proven, time and again, that he will pick the ****e that he wants - Rooney should have to earn his place back - the way they played against germany was the best I've seen England play sing the euro';s in 96! But, unfortunately, Roy will go with his liverpool mates. Not good enough for Liverpool as a manager but good enough to run the national team!!
I potentially agree about them being relegated but the difference is that Defoe is in a team that can build around trying to get him to score goals. And h's done that brilliantly. I love Defoe as a player but he's not as good as Sturridge. Take Man U and Sunderland fans out of the equation and I think you'd struggle to find anyone who disagrees.
Rooney will probably have to earn his place back, he'll have to prove his fitness. He won't have to be in a rich vein of goalscoring form though, he doesn't need to be that player for England, I'm excited to see him linking up with Alli. What worries me, is the central midfield, because a friendly game is a huge difference from a huge Euro game. Henderson and Dier could drown in there on the big stage.
Technically he's not as good as Sturridge, but as an asset he's better, what the **** use is a cripple with Beats By Dre round his head gonna do for any team in this league? As for laughing at my Suarez 90% comment, back your **** up pal, what have Liverpool done since he left... they've plummeted, despite ploughing insane amounts of cash into that squad, Sturridge is a joke of a player to hype after these last two years.
Well obviously if Sturridge is unfit then that's a different debate. As for Suarez, I just see a lot of rewriting of history when it comes to Liverpool. At the time, people were talking about their "SAS partnership" and crediting Rodgers on the fast pressing style he implemented. I didnt see anyone at the time claiming it was 90% down to Suarez. Now Suarez leaves and everyone rewrites what happened that season. Sturridge has a 1 in 2 record this season and I'd bet a lot of his apps have been off the bench. EDIT: I'm also not hyping Sturridge, I wouldn't take him to the Euro's if I was manager. He's just better than Defoe.
I can guarantee you'd say differently if he played for you and had 12 goals this season. You have zero to back up your argument - I said at the time that a massive chunk of the Sturridge and Suarez partnership was Suarez - a large number of us did - just because the press don;t say it doesn;t mean that we don;t. As Tel says - we'd be below villa now if we had Sturridge. Only interested in himself - I ask you - who would you rather the ball fall to 15 yards out on his weaker foot for a goal which could decide whether we stay in the competition? Defoe or Sturridge?
Of course he was complimentary in the partnership, but he wasn't pivotal, he could have been replaced, Suarez couldn't. The 90% wasn't supposed to be taken literally like I'd just done years of analysis on stats and come up with a perfect figure. He was mainly responsible for the success of that team and any scouser who denies that would be dribbling utter ****. Since then Liverpool have finished in underwhelming positions, and I'd attribute some of that to Sturridge's injury record and some of it to Sturridge's selfishness, when he doesn't pass and they could end up losing points. Right now you'd probably take Sturridge over Defoe, for sure, but I think Liverpool would be futher up the table if they had Defoe instead of Sturridge. You can't just base your thoughts on a player on how good he is when fit, otherwise, Owen Hargreaves becomes one of the best CM's of all time.
Defoe, easily. But that proves nothing, i'd rather the ball fell to me 15 yards out on my weaker foot than Sturridge, but I'd still take him to the Euros ahead of me.
Let's change direction then, do you take Sturridge or Carroll, for me Carroll every time, because he adds something else, Sturridge is gonna be like for like, taking off somebody like Welbeck or Sterling and bringing him on.
If I had to take a player for a season at Newcastle right now, itd be Defoe over Sturridge. But a tournament is only 4 weeks. It's not a long time to keep fit. So if he's ready I'd be more concerned about what he can bring to the team than his injury record. Same as with Rooney who will likely play very few games before the Euros. Defoe is an excellent poacher, nothing more. Sturridge regularly makes goals out of nothing and is an excellent finisher.
Carroll every time, I dont know why people don't rate him. Gives us a different option to all the other potential strikers we could take, and his ground-work is underrated.
You don't need to convince me, because I'd never take Defoe. My only objection was with your salivating over Sturridge.
I've never seen anybody get the better of him in the box for a full game, he's the type of player you need against a Spain type team who won't let you play on the ground. I don't like him as a footballer, but can appreciate what he is, a big numb bastard.
