700 kilograms of enriched uranium is set to travel across Atlantic as part of exchange deal, British PM is expected to announce according to British media

Why? -as I cannot think of any valid or commercial reason as to why this dangerously idiotic and reckless situation has to happen?

I ****ing hope that they don't ship it by air! -as going by ship is scary enough!- our planet will take centuries to recover from the Fukushima disaster- ffs just look at and the radioactive contaminants leaking into Pacific - a similar mishap in the Atlantic and that'd **** up the Northern Hemisphere too - arrogant decision making by tossers that will do anything to make a buck!

It's a great idea to tell us all about this, too, so that anybody that might want to cause a bit of bother can plan ahead :emoticon-0105-wink:

I'm sure this isn't the first time something like this has taken place, this just happens to be the biggest shipment (that's been announced).
And it's probably only being announced because:

"In return, European hospitals will receive a different type of uranium from the U.S. that can be turned into radio isotopes used to detect cancer."

We get rid of stuff we don't want and in return get stuff that's useful...

Yes that'll be most useful if the waste shipment goes awry <doh>

That clip does not make me feel any better or safer -even Fukushima was built to be fail-safe !

and it worries even more- so if they decide to fly it out!

What happened to a operational nuclear reactor during a tsunami does not give any insight to the risks involved in transporting a secured shipment of nuclear waste.

Sure, if they planned to transport and operate a 700MW nuclear reactor on the boat then I might be concerned.
But they aren't. So I'm not.

from the Scottish Herald -The SNP’s Paul Monaghan, the local MP, said he too was deeply concerned by the development and is to demand assurances from David Cameron about the safety of the transportation, which he believes will involve up to nine flights from Wick airport using huge American c-130 Galaxy aircraft.

Why not fly it out, one of the safest modes of transport going?
Up to 9 flights for 700kg, just take it in one go.
Obviously spreading the load just incase something goes ping tong.

The SNP have an anti-nuclear manifesto, it's no surprise they are complaining (and the Scottish Herald is their mouthpiece). They'd have plenty more to worry about if nuclear industries disappeared from their constituencies.

There is nuclear waste being transported around the UK on a daily basis. The trains run on public rail lines alongside commercial and passenger cargo.
The industry has been doing this for decades and has a good track record.

The way anti-nuclear protesters carry on you'd think nuclear waste was this mystical, magical material of which we have no understanding and it might spontaneously explode at any moment.

If a C-130 plane might fall out of the sky while transporting the waste we should ground all C-130s all over the world. They obviously aren't safe to fly...

    I believe so mate!

The US produces 1000's of tonnes of radioactive waste by it's own management and production of nuclear power - and they wish to take our waste ...

    Why?
