No, there wasn't. He had no nukes....at all. He had a few biological weapons, but was of no threat to the West. And a minute ago you were saying that Europe has no responsibility to help out in the Middle East. But now you are saying we should have ousted Saddam? The US helped install him as leader of Iraq FFS, during the Iran-Iraq war in the 70's, as leader of their military, he proposed taking action against Iran to take back territory it had lost years back on its Southern Border. That territory was held by an Anti US regime in Tehran, so Hussein made a deal with the US, who provided financial support and weaponry, with which he reclaimed that territory and as a reward President Carter awarded him the key to the city of Detroit and backed him as the new leader. So again, even if you do agree that the US needed to oust him from power, they put him in power in the first place.....
And if you are going to tell me that we should have ousted Hussein because of human rights violations or some other bullshit, just remember who are ours and the US's main allies in the middle east.....Saudi Arabia, the country with the most disgusting human rights violations on record.
I do think we should keep out of it,but i'd support the US,even when mistakes are made.Someone had to get rid of Saddam i think we all know that regardless of who put him there in the first place.
How? He had no links to Al'Qaeda, no plans to attack the West, No WMD's. Yeah he had some mustard gas missiles and an a few other biological weapons, but absolutely no nukes at all, and wasn't anywhere close to have anything of the sort. Also.....Saudi Arabia are no threat to us? Most of the financial backing provided to Al'Qaeda was from Saudi Arabia, Osama Bin Laden himself was Saudi Arabian, as were 2 of the 9/11 hijackers. Actually no, just looked it up, 15 of the 19 people responsible for 9/11 were Saudi Arabian.
Exactly. Saddam had no WMD's. If he did have, do you think Israel would have stood by? Of course not because it would have been them on the receiving end. Also, Saddam was so locked down with the no-fly zones, he couldn't fart without us knowing.
Then either way, its the US's fault, they put him in power, then ousted him, which ****ed up the country and created ISIS. Either way, America's fault.
Saudi Arabia is no direct threat to us,thats not to say it doesn't have its promlems.Saddam was trouble full stop and had to go.
What does that mean? He was Iraqs most progressive leader, probably ever, yes by the West's standards he was a ****ing monster, but far from the worst leader in the middle East, when you compare him to the Saudi Royal family, the Taliban, Assad, and other Islamist regimes. Can you ellaborate on what you mean by "He was trouble".
The way the West cosies up to Saudi Arabia is pathetic. It's a hotbed of human rights violations and terrorism. But they have lots of money and oil! The same is true of Qatar.
Indeed, the Saudi regime forces girls as young as 7 into sexual slavery, holds people for months without trial and puts them under extreme torture. The Taliban were nearly as bad in their gender segregation aswell.
Right so Iraq attacking Kuwait = We need to oust Saddam NOW! 5 factions warring over Syria ( A war we at least partially started) causing millions of immigrants to flood into Europe = Nothing to do with Europe mate! Erm....... p.S and since when was Kuwait in the West?
That wasn't your question regards Saddam. For me it shouldn't be Europes problem, when we've enough problems already.Hopefully we'll be out of it soon.
But you said the Middle East should sort itself out so why do you care that Iraq invaded Kuwait? Why do you think the West jumped to the defence of little old Kuwait?
hehe, I am siding with a manc over a Chelsea fan, I need a bath Seriously though, there was no logical reason to invade Iraq, other than the fact that we could with impunity, because they had **** we wanted and their regional neighbours didn't give a **** and would back us for a chance at some of the spoils. Like I said, Saddam was horrendous by Western Standards (though his son was actually far worse, a proper psychopath), but by no means was Saddams government any worse than any other in the Middle East. The double standard shown by both ours and the US governments on foreign policy is ****ed up. Iraq invades Kuwait and we jump in Guns a blazing. Russia invades Ukraine and its all "Uhm, please Mr Putin, could you uh, pwease stop that, or we'll erm.....increase taxes on your bananas?" And like Stan said, the way we cosy up to the Saudi's is ****ing deplorable, considering they are by far the worst mother ****er's in the Middle East (other than ISIS, but not too far off imo).
I need a beer in me hand and eye contact for this and my MI6 buddy!....... In the meantime send all refugees to Manchester!
