Agreed on Zidane as no.1, still (for me) the best player ever.

I so wished I had seen Maldini, but the game I saw Buffon at (England v Italy at Elland Rd in 2002), he wasn't playing.

No it was definitely the Circle, but you're right about his White Heart lane gig. Outstanding <ok>

I remember this game, I was so excited England's most capped player was playing against us. Think it Was Graham Atkinson went round him then he brought him down, had to go. Might be my memory playing tricks but I seem to remember after that the substitute keeper (possibly an outfield player still in those days) saved the penalty and we went on to lose the game?

"THE former England goalkeeper Peter Shilton, was sent off after 26 minutes of Plymouth Argyle's 2-0 Second Division defeat at Hull City last night for a professional foul on Graeme Atkinson in the penalty area. Shilton is now the player-manager of Argyle and gaining a reputation as a strict disciplinarian: it will be interesting to see how he deals with himself.
Nicky Marker went in goal and saved the resulting penalty from Leigh Jenkinson, but could not prevent two late goals by David Hockaday and Gary Lund". The Independent 1992.

Cheers - strange that I can remember the penalty incident so clearly but not the final result! I may be wrong but I think that was the only time Shilts got sent off in his 1000+ game career

might have been mentioned because im too lazy to scroll up these days, but does anybody remember when John Eyre dinked one down the middle from the penalty spot against Neville Southall in goal for Torquay United? a few weeks after he did it at Liverpool I think..

and best keeper display ive seen live, was the Bolton keeper I cant spell , in his personal battle with Geo in our first Premier League season...

Bill Shankly's dad died at that game. Shankly always gave the impression that he thought if you were going to go there wasn't a better time to do it.

Do you remember how exciting it was to be able to watch that game? Hard to explain to your kids or anyone younger. But it was more exciting in many ways than being able to constantly watch football virtually around the clock.

Sorry, Quill, Zidane was a great player but not the best ever. Not in the top 10 (just my opinion that, but I have seen more than 10 players, live, not on TV who were better and some others on TV).

Best players I've seen live (not on TV) and apart from top 3 not in any particular order

Messi - I was fortunate enough to get to the Champions League final when Barcelona beat Man Utd 3 - 1
    Iniesta - as above
    Xavi - as above

    Gordon Banks
    Kevin Keegan
    Sergio Aguero
    Ryan Giggs
    Paul Scholes
    Peter Shilton

Mine would definitely include Giggs and Ronaldo. In the OT 4:3 match United at the end of game had Giggs Ronaldo Rooney Tevez and Berbatov playing but still struggled to put us away.
What would they give for a line up like that now.

I thought it was just 15 minutes too before the red, shows how you forget things. I knew Jenks was involved but have no memory at all of his missed pen!
