I disagree too, but does Roy. To be clear I feared that would be the decision, I wasn't suggesting it.

If England take 5 strikers it will be Rooney, Wellbeck, Kane, Sturridge and Vardy/Walcott. Personally I wouldn't have either Gooner near the squad, but I don't pick it. If he takes 4....

... the reason Woy would be daft not to take Vards is his pace ... makes him impossible to contain ... Rooney would not have been first to the ball that Clyne put in on Saturday, nor could he have created that chance for Alli ...looking back to the world cup we were so one dimensional it was soul destroying (we could have played for another two days against Costa Rica and their defence would still have been ,comfortable')

... for me Sturridge and Kane are similar .. very good players who can hit the target if given the ball within shooting range ... Vardy should complement either because he doesn't need that ... he can collect the ball on the half-way line, spin and be bearing down on goal with defenders trailing in his wake ... he is also quite unselfish and can use that to create ... he has created numerous opportunities for us this season (think he has 8 assists to his credit) ...

Woy has actually been to see him numerous times, including THAT goal against Liverpool ... he'd be mad not t take such a potent force ... but I too would not be completely surprised ... although I think that goal against Germany as all but hog-tied Woy on that front ...

Think Vardy's a certainty for the squad to be fair. Might not start but I reckon he's def going <ok>

I just hope Sturridge stays at home <grr>

  9. The names definitely on the team sheet are:-

Hart, Rose, Walker, Dier, Alli, Kane, Vardy

The rest of the places are up for grabs.

Personally, I would not take any of the following:-

    Cahill, Rooney, Walnut, Welbeck, Sturridge

Don't think Walker is nailed on to start but the rest are I'd say.

Why wouldn't you take Cahill or Welbeck?

  11. Cahill is a disaster waiting to happen.

    Welbeck is overrated and limited.

However, I expect Roy will take both.

Welbeck has actually done very well for England, as for Cahill I'm not sure what other options are out there really.

  13. Wellbeck never really had the competition that he has now, for his role. There are better options for Roy, I think.

I agree with your comments regarding Cahill.

Agree we have a lot more competition up top now (including AMs/Wingers) but I don't rate Sturridge internationally and **** knows what's gonna happen with Rooney. For me only Kane & Vardy are ahead of Danny <ok>

My hope is that Roy plays Rooney in the opening game then rests him for this game !
Cant wait to go - still haven't told my mates that I have bought 4 tickets for the game.

Not too much Spurs biased there? <whistle>

Agree on most of those but not sure on Rose on Walker. Clyne is a far superior defender to Walker and even though he hasn't been great going forward for us this season, he's so far ahead of Walker when it comes to defending that he has to start, especially as the rest of the defence aren't exactly great.

Rose, he's been good but he wasn't great in the 2 friendlies recently and gets caught out of position quite a bit (guess he is a converted winger so is likely). Again, Baines and Bertrand are far better defensively so depends what you want from your 2 full backs. Works for Spurs because you have Dier sitting deep and making it a back 3, but if Roy doesn't use the same tactics (and let's be honest his tactics couldn't be further away from the way Pochetino sets his teams up) then I don't think having 2 full backs who are both going to be flying up with wing at the same time will work, especially at International level against some of the best teams.

I'd take all the ones you mentioned that you wouldn't take (bar Walcott) just because they are proven at international level and have competition experience. You can't take a bunch of players like Rose, Dier, Ali, Kane, Vardy, all of which have 0 experience. Now that's not to say I'd start with any of them, Cahill would be my only one, but having them on the bench and in and around the squad is vital.

Best 11 would probably look something like below

    Hart
    Clyne Cahill Smalling Rose
    Dier
    Milner Alli
    Barkley
    Vardy Kane

  17. That's a fair team selection.

I still think that Roy will go (mistakenly) with Rooney over Vardy, at least for 70 mins of each game.

Woy will go with his usual boring, ineffectual selection, unfortunately. And we all know what the end result of that will be.

Whilst the likes of Kane, Vardy, Alli, etc are all relatively inexperienced,
can they really do any worse?...

  19. There is no point in having experience if you cannot use it effectively.
