He did score a screamer and set up Mane. I thought the rest of his game was poor against Liverpool. Long for the last three months has been by far our best striker.

 

Mane has been out of form and Pelle has been playing whilst injured. Even so, to say Shane Long has been our best striker by far is stretching the point a little. And I've always appreciated Shane Long's contribution, even as far back as when he was a Reading player. But players eventually return to form or from injury.

However, I can certainly see a place for Long in the line up. Him and Mane either side of Pelle in a spearhead.

 

I stand by my comment that Long has been by far our best striker over the last three months. No other has come close.

Can you tell me a striker for us who has come close to him from January to March? I really can't see any issue with that statement and really can't see how anyone could not see that. You've just given two examples of other strikers issues that back up my view. Thanks.

I suppose, now that Long has been awarded 2 penalties in one match, he's used up his quota for the season.

 

It's becuase one of the top 4 are playing!

Agree that longs form has been great, lots of running and never give up. But he hasn't been in the goals past few games. But pele has scored and a beaut at that. So do you reward a geat goal with 89 minutes of flicks and gesticulating or 90m of terrorising defences with few goals?

 

I agree that Long deserves his place, I agree that he's been our best striker this year and in an attacking sense first name on the team sheet for me, no goals in last couple but offers so much more. But I also agree that Pelle deserves to start after playing a big part in our last 7 points.

Mane off the bench when we have a lead to protect and we can play Leicester at their own game

 

Long is different from Pelle...he does more running from deep and has pace. I want to see both in the team....the game changer and a striker come into form.
