The Under-21s travel to Nottingham Forest in their latest U21 Professional Development League 2 game this afternoon.

Kicking off at 1pm at Forest’s Nigel Doughty Academy, Tony Pennock’s Development Squad will be looking to bounce back from a 1-0 defeat away at Colchester United in their last outing and currently sit third in the northern section table.

Hosts Forest find themselves just one place and three points behind the Tigers and come into today’s game unbeaten in their last two league fixtures, having beaten Barnsley 1-0 at home two weeks ago before drawing 1-1 away at Ipswich last week.

Everything is better with the U21 team.

I don't mean that in an Adam Johnson way.

Britt Assombalonga is making his long awaited (by Forest fans) return in this game apparently.

Assombalonga with a goal and assist, great news for him after a terrible injury. Wouldn't mind a look at him in the Summer, not that we could afford him..

2-3 Will Annan (88th minute, so that should be the winner)

Goals from Jarrod Bowen (2) and Will Annan saw the Under-21s register a 3-2 victory over Nottingham Forest on Tuesday afternoon.

The Tigers started impressively and took a deserved lead after 14 minutes with a swift counter attack led by Bowen, who advanced down the left before firing a low shot past Tim Erlandsson in the Forest goal.

However, the hosts hit back to lead at the break with two goals in the space of four minutes, equalising through Liam Adams before Britt Assombalonga made it 2-1 with an impressive strike from the edge of the box.

Tony Pennock’s regrouped after the break and deservedly got themselves back on level terms when Bowen kept his cool to send Erlandsson the wrong way from the penalty spot after Annan had been brought down inside the box.

Not content with just a point to show for their efforts, the Tigers went in search of a winner which duly arrived two minutes from time when Annan prodded home after Ben Hinchcliffe’s free-kick fell kindly to him inside the box.

Two goals from Jarrod Bowen and a late strike from Will Annan helped the Under 21s to a 3-2 victory over Nottingham Forest at the Nigel Doughty Academy on Tuesday afternoon.
The Tigers started impressively and took a deserved lead with fine goal from Bowen. However, the hosts hit back to lead at the break with two goals in the space of four minutes, equalising through Liam Adams before Britt Assombalonga made it 2-1.
Tony Pennock’s regrouped after the break and deservedly got themselves back on level terms when Bowen scored his second of the game from the penalty spot and Annan ensured all three points with an 88th-minute winner.
Tony Pennock made two changes to the side that lost at Colchester eight days earlier. Rory Watson was back in goal to replace trialist Andrew Firth and Robbie McKenzie came back into the side with Johan Ter Horst having picked up an injury at Colchester.
The Tigers had the first chance of the game from Dan Batty’s free-kick but Harvey Rodgers planted his header wide of the far post.
However, the Tigers didn’t have to wait too much longer to break the deadlock as they went ahead on 14 minutes when Bowen burst away down the left and drilled a low strike past Forest keeper Tim Erlandsson.
Pennock’s side went in search of a second goal as the looked to make their impressive start count as Greg Olley fired wide from the edge of the box, before Ben Hinchliffe stabbed a shot wide after Ben Clappison had pulled the ball back from a Josh Tymon corner.
At the other end of the pitch, Watson was alert to keep out Britt Assombalonga’s shot at the base of his near post as the hosts threatened for the first time in the game.
The Tigers were forced into a re-shuffle when Tymon picked up an injury, with Josh Clackstone switching from right-back to left-back, Dan Batty dropping to right-back and Tyler Hamilton entering the action in the number 10 role as Olley dropped back into the middle of midfield.
However, against the run of the play, Forest drew level on 37 minutes. Assombalonga laid the ball into the path of Liam Adams who placed a right foot shot into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.
City replied with Annan releasing Hinchliffe but his first-time shot was saved by Erlandsson and would have been ruled out by an offside flag anyway.
Forest took the lead five minutes before the break when Ben Brereton latched onto Adam Crookes’ long ball and his pass found Assombalonga, who produced a superb strike with the outside of his right foot to find the top corner.
The Tigers almost drew level in first half stoppage time when Hinchliffe exchanged passes with Hamilton, but Erlandsson was quickly out to block the Tigers striker.
Forest went close to increasing their lead just after the break but Deimantas Petravicius saw his well-struck effort from distance crash against the crossbar.
Hamilton saw a shot comfortably held by Erlandsson before Hinchliffe had a great chance to score only to slot the ball agonisingly wide of the post after latching on to Annan’s perfectly-weighted pass.
But the Tigers got the equaliser they play deserved on 71 minutes when Annan was brought down in the box and Bowen confidently dispatched the resulting spot kick.
Clackstone almost made it two goals in two minutes for the Tigers but his free-kick, which was heading for the top corner, was superbly pushed away by Erlandsson and Hinchliffe couldn’t get the rebound on target.
Hamilton then fired over from the edge of the box before City grabbed the winner with just two minutes of normal time remaining. Annan won a free-kick on the right and Hinchliffe’s delivery was met by Rodgers, whose header dropped invitingly for Annan to poke the ball into the back of the net.
McKenzie went close to increasing the Tigers’ lead in stoppage time with a superb strike from distance that seemed destined for the top corner until Erlandsson intervened to tip the ball away. It mattered not, though, as the Tigers went on to claim a 12th league win of the season.
Hull City: Rory Watson, Josh Clackstone, Josh Tymon (Tyler Hamilton 35), Dan Batty, Harvey Rodgers, Ben Clappison, Will Annan, Robbie McKenzie, Ben Hinchliffe, Greg Olley, Jarrod Bowen.

Nottingham Forest: Tim Erlandsson, Ryan Yates, Tom Gamblen, Jorge Grant, Andreas Karo, Adam Crookes, Deimantas Petravicius, Toby Edser (Kieran Hayes 78), Britt Assombalonga (Jake Taylor 46), Ben Brereton, Liam Adams.

Bowen looks increasingly like the best hope of making a breakthrough. Seems to have really improved this season and is involved in almost every goal the academy side scores now!!
