Do petitions ever work for anything?

Certainly not when they're struggling to hit 3k even with loads of Sunderland fans signing just so they can leave comments which mock the desperation <laugh>

They are certainly becoming more influential in politics since the rule came in where petitions over 100,000 automatically get debated. Organisations such as 38 Degrees North have had some success using this tactic..

But have they achieved anything? I read the results of a petition that went to parliament and to summerise it was basically:

They want us to debate this.
    Let's all acknowledge it.
Thanks for bringing it to our attention.
    But no.

There has been a few issues that have had some success..For example the pesticides being used that are decimating the vital bee population has had so many backers that it is becoming a global issue now..

A gimmick so parliament can say we're listening to the people. What a load of bollocks.

That's what their constituency surgeries are for.

How can they expect the FA to deduct points when it was the FA rep who had the chat with Byrne in the first place?

    Beyond me that one.

Exactly so. It doesn`t make sense.

Not that it has to of course. <doh>
