It was nice to see JJ lift the Peoples Trophy last night and thought he was a good choice for skipper. Sentiment would probably say he deserves to retain the armband but for me, after watching last nights match, thought that Morrisson would be a more suitable candidate. He showed good leadership skills at the back and encourged Solly and Taylor on numerous occassions. It's a big decision choosing the right skipper and i'm sure that there are many possible candidates.

    Who would you choose?

Will JJ play most of the matches?

We have some good options on the wings, but JJ has never really impressed me as an out and out winger. The midfield is now very strong and competition for places should be good.
Therefore, I think Morrison should get the armband. As much as I appreciate JJ as a player, I do think Morrison will play more matches.

But without a doubt, JJ should be the vice-captain.

Always in favour of a captain in the middle of the back four. Havnt seen him play, but judging upon the reports from last night, sounds like Morrison is the perfect candidate.
I know its early doors, but the back four already looks and sounds more solid than the past few years.

Politically I think it makes sense for the armband to go to JJ. With so many new players there is the chance (though I'm sure it's slim) that a little resentment could creep in if one of the newbies got made captain. JJ knows the club and what it stands for and the responsibility that comes with being skipper.

    Good post SirJohn <ok>

I'm far from Jackson's biggest fan (as some of you may know), in fact I'd far rather we had a pacey left-winger above him in the pecking order, but sadly with a lack of experienced players who have been here longer than 3 months, I guess Jackson is the best option. I'm sure the likes of Danny Hollands or maybe even Paul Hayes could do a job as captain, but I'm quite opposed to new signings immediately being handed the captaincy (take Mark Hudson for example).

Do you guys think that JJ will play the majority of matches?

I can understand the issue of a new player becoming captain straight away if he were the only new signing. But seeing as a whole new team has been brought in, and many have left, I can't see it being a major problem if a newbie gets the armband.

I'm with you all the way Kerpowell.

Morrison appears to be a natural leader to me. I was sat about eight rows from the front of the west stand last night and he did not stop talking.

I don't know the fella personally, but he comes across to me as a big bubbly confident character who i can imagine will be a big presence both on and off the pitch for us.

Jackson is the central figure of the team, arguably the actual POTY last season (we all know Semedo was sentimental as we all loved him no matter how he played), He should be captain. In Spain it appeared he and Doc were club captains due to judging the new lads talent show thing.

If you want to look to the back 4, which is where I do prefer my captains, Taylor is the man with experience as a captain and not just experience, but captained Exeter to 2 back to back promotions and L1 survival in a modest side under similar management to Powell. He would be my man over the much younger(possibly less respected in that regard) Morrison with no experience of that responsibility/pressure

I'd be happy with Taylor or Morrison to be honest Hell... Your argument for Taylor is a good one. On the flip side, Morrison is younger and has had experience of playing at a higher level. If he were our skipper and we gained promotion he could continue in that role in the championship. For me Morrison was definitely the more vocal of the two.

Imo Jackson is not captain material. Nowhere near vocal enough and although he had a productive season last time out (thanks to the penalty spot) i don't believe he leads my example in terms of work rate (Powell had to bark at him at least three time to track back against Bosch)... also... i can't see him being guaranteed a start with Evina being brought in to play LM.

I can see arguments for all three candidates. Would like Taylor and Morrison to really establish themselves before getting such a responsibility - as someone remarked earlier, remember Hudson? I think Jackson is probably the 'face' of the club nowadays and will do all the other roles that come with the job well. Nothing to stop Morrison and Taylor being vocal on the pitch still - as all players should be.

JJ- I've never been a fan of a new signing becoming captain. Plus, he is already a player that the entire squad turn to- very integral.

A natural leader will be vocal on the pitch, even if he doesn't have the armband on. When Murty was on loan with us, you could see him organising the defence, more so than any other recent defender, despite not being here very long, and being a loanee.

JJ is a better 'figurehead' to the outside world, in that he's someone more people would have heard of, and isn't a newcomer. He could play CM or LB as well, so it's not as if it's LM or nothing.
