"Largely as a result of a series of political pamphlets that Pearse wrote in the months leading up to the Rising, he soon became recognised as the main voice of the Rising. In the middle decades of the 20th century Pearse was idolised by Irish nationalists as the supreme idealist of their cause."

    LITTLE LAD OF THE TRICKS

    by Padraig Pearse.

    Little lad of the tricks,
    Full well I know
That you have been in mischief:
    Confess your fault truly.

    I forgive you, child
    Of the soft red mouth:
    I will not condemn anyone
    For a sin not understood.

    Raise your comely head
    Till I kiss your mouth:
If either of us is the better of that
I am the better of it.

There is a fragrance in your kiss
That I have not found yet
    In the kisses of women
Or in the honey of their bodies.

    Lad of the grey eyes,
    That flush in thy cheek
Would be white with dread of me
    Could you read my secrets.

    He who has my secrets
Is not fit to touch you:
Is not that a pitiful thing,
Little lad of the tricks ?

    The poem ?

Or the fact that the figurehead and founding father of Irish independence was a man who wrote whistfully about his sexual encounters with small boys ?

    Agh, I see.

You are trying to make an equivelance beteen Adam Johnson, who many posters have recently vehemently berated for kissing a 15 year old girl, and Patrick Pearse, who is effectively idolised by many of the same posters, even though he used to force his 'soldiers' to kiss him, and was apparently sexually attracted to young boys (with whom he had sex).

Sorry for not getting that the first time. <ok>

We can be sure that none of the fine upstanding heroes who built the British Empire were ever guilty of sexual depravity of any kind. The public school background of the officer classes would have ensured the highest moral standards at all times.

Aha ! The "english public school boys are gay, nah nah nah nah nah" rebuttal.

Interesting response to the "it is a matter of fact, that the man who organised the easter risings, and was revered as the father of modern day irish republicanism, was a practising peadophile" gambit.

    Hmmm. Interesting.

How does it level things up ?

    I am :

    a) a mere bystander
    b) only a peadophile to the extent that *****phile means speaking up for adam Johnson. Which it doesn't at all.

    The Irish representative is :

    a) effectively their God
    b) a *****phile to the extent that he slept with, and sexually prefered small boys *

That doesn't seem very even to me at all.

    * he also kissed all his soldiers on the mouth !!!

    3 reasons :

    1. They started it, with far more outrageous comments than mine (celebrating specific IRA murders etc)
2.They didn't let it go, and tried swarming me or whatever on other threads, because of my earlier comments.
    3. I'm wiping the floor with them, and having a whale of a time.

Maybe you are but talking as a Englishman you are doing it in an embarrassing way, you ain't wiping the floor with anyone. They got a right to commemorate battles the same as we do, many moments in history do not always paint us in a good light. As for swarming over your threads, you are on their board, in the same way as footie boards. If you want to argue the case with them I'm not really sure how keeping harping back to the *****phile AJ is helping your cause. Just saying. Otherwise keep on whaling.

What you do or do not find embarassing, is not representative of an English opinion of whether something is embarassing. Please don't attempt to hold yourself out as the voice of the English, because yon't.

I am wiping the floor with them, which is why you poked your nose in.

The original angst on this thread, was caused by ****** and others celebrating IRA bombings and murders. That has nothing to do with the events of 1916, and cheering about cols blooded muder is not an appropriate way to "commemorate" anything.

I suspect you know very little about the evnts of 1916, and have no idea whether they paint 'us' in a good light or not. Furthermore, I don't see the relevance of that comment.

I havent said they have swarmed my threads (although bf to you I didnt explain that point, however that was not it).

This is not "their board" just because it is nominally about events which took place in Ireland.mi have a right to comment like everyone else.

If you had read back only half a dozen comments or so before wading in, you would have seen that it wasn't me who brought Johnson into the conversation.

I might expand on what this has brought this about, in a seperate post shortly.

Basically, what's happened is this :

    1. ****** and a couple of others, starting laughing at IRA murder victims, including the lads who were mudered at the funeral around 1990 (which was a truly disgusting event). They werent trying to commemorate anything, they were trying to stir the ****.

    2. I joined in, and had a pop about some of their stuff (can't remember what tbh).

    3. ****** and Norfolk - both of whom I had enjoyed a bit of banter with previously - appeared to throw their toys out of the pram, and followed me round calling me a @@@@ every time i post.

    4. I thought 'well, if you're going to act like that, then you can have some more about Pearse'.

    5. So I did.
