The Irish troubles were also about sectarian intolerance between the two communities on the island. People killed for less than mild disrespect. I don't think it is right to turn this thread into an anti-muslim thread. There are good and bad within all religions.
It was territorial. The Nationalist extremists wanted unification, ideally to push the Unionists out of Ireland. The Union extremists wanted to subjugate Nationalists in the six counties. We can take it as a given that there is good and bad in all religions. But when there have been a string of mass killings by Muslim extremists in Europe, and a grave threat of them occurring in the UK too, I think it quite in order to discuss the problem without being told - wrong thread - particularly when the thread is entitled "Terrorist attacks in Brussels"
If you want to play the law-definer Goldhawk, then you need to play by your rules too...this thread is called "Terrorist attacks in Brussels"...so you too should keep yourself to the thread topics and discuss the Terrorist attacks in Brussels only please
Is this a new rule you're imposing, Beth? Is it a formal rule of this chat site that every comment must comply exactly to the title of the thread? "Terrorist attacks in Brussels" must necessarily refer to Muslim extremists. Are you saying no other attacks by Muslim extremists may be referred to? That sounds like censorship to me. I was addressing Col's question earlier today. Will you censure and censor him too? May be you don't like what a poster has to say, but you over-reach yourself if you stop him or her saying it, if it breaches no laws or rules of the site.
Not sure about this Beth. Threads often morph into separate and usually, but not always, related topics.
Yes they do, we can discus Rooney on here. The Euros are being played in France, Paris is in France, Paris had terrorist attacks, Brussels had terrorist attacks, the same terrorists in Brussels and Paris are connected, therefore should Rooney be picked for the England team?
All I'm saying is, please don't make the thread an anti-muslim one. Don't blame all muslims for the actions of a few. All religions have intolerant people in them.
No Goldhawk.. I was pointing out those were the rules you imparted not me... I was wondering when you got the power to define what we talk about....I was applying what you suggested to your own post.....and both you and Col realise how silly a few of your comments can be
I was expressing an opinion, not passing a rule. And you were not pointing anything out. You were using your authority as a mod to censor comment. You gave me an order on what I should not refer to. Do you not think that might be an abuse of your authority? Have you ever heard of light-touch modding?
Show me anywhere I have done anything or censor anything or used any of my "powers" I made a comment asking why you were making rules and being aggressively dominant on this thread. Believe it or not I can comment on here just the way any one else can. I believe it is allowed The tone of some of your comments are very belligerent and if any one disagree with you then you are aggressive and bullying. That is a comment of a regular poster...not a mod.
Let me remind you what you said: "...you too should keep yourself to the thread topics and discuss the Terrorist attacks in Brussels only please." Now you are claiming to have been wearing a regular poster's hat, not a mod's? That's dishonest and disingenuous.
So every time I post...my posts carry the power of a mod. Don't be so silly... And don't be disingenuous either. I can comment as a regular poster you know...and a regular poster I found your post 162 unnecessarily aggressive. And your response to me was again OTT aggressive. Why do you go out of your way to attack anybody who questions you.
Beth, you must see you were giving out a Mod's order, and there was no cause for that. If you think I'm being unnecessarily aggressive, tell me in your capacity as a poster for God's sake. Your strategy with me has been one of non-engagement, until the mod's order (above) I have my odd skirmish with Stan or Finglas, but it's not in bad faith ever, certainly from my point of view. It's never been abusive. In fact, you've been more abusive to me by calling me belligerant, aggressive and a bully... I don't agree with you, but I absolutely support your right to say it.
You have every right to express that opinion...as I do mine...which I have as a regular poster too...I think we can both agree on that.
