I've said this before - without him playing our youngsters are playing with more flair and freedom, there is no need for them to be constantly looking to pass the ball to Rooney for him to score (or not ), instead they can bang it about and have a pop at goal without fear of a rocket from the captain who might be chasing this or that o0nscure and irrelevant scoring target. Get rid to China - he'll do well, we all know he likes a dog or two

Rooney is sitting in those stands thinking about nothing more than banging out more kids, thieving from Nike and screwing the club for more money. He will honestly expect to walk straight back into the side - just in time to f*ck it up for the final game or two.

I've never warmed to Rooney, he's always been a hired gun in the crudest sense in my opinion, and I think he now belongs in United's past given where we're at today. I can't see where he fits into the team and I'd rather see Smalling as the captain. I don't doubt that he'll come straight back into the team though and I also don't doubt that in crucial games Fellaini will start ahead of far superior midfielders. It's the LVG way.

Was pleased with Schneiderlin today, he has started to look the part recently though still very inconsistent.
It was good to see Lingard jump to Rashfords defence when the City thugs ganged up on him, it showed some spirit and unity among the young lads which is something we need for the future.

As it is right now we need an experienced player in the forward 3. The youngsters are doing well no doubt but they suffer from lack of experience sometimes which will improve overtime. Our forward 3 of lingard, rashford and martial are players that want to dribble at every opportunity. We need at least one player in the middle that can score from the slightest of chances. Rashford can do that but he is not a finished product. Martial needs to dribble past every player for him to score. A player that knows then to pass and when to dribble. Rooney would have been the perfect player but he is not the same Rooney of the past. Sell Rooney and get an experienced no nonsense striker to play in front of the youngsters. Keep Mata but get another no 10 to compete with him. If it is true that Madrid wants to offload isco and James then we should get James, get one more defender and we will challenge for titles. But of course this will be impossible if van gaal still remains the coach next season.

I wouldn't say that, everyone is entitled to their opinion, regardless of how wrong they are.

I just find it hilarious that when we have one half decent performance it's proof we don't need Rooney while completely ignoring the three preceding utterly dire performances where Rooney's experience would probably have been invaluable.

I can see both sides. I do think we're missing Rooney simply as a threat and for his experience. But his performances as a whole this season have been poor.

Would you swap Rashford for him right now. If that was Rooney yesterday, I doubt he would have got past Dimecheles. I'm not even sure he would've taken him on. Thats whats so disappointing. Who would ever have thought anyone would be saying that about him.

Even I would have the Rooney of old in a heartbeat - but sadly, in large parts of this season he has been crap. I can imagine him in the dressing room with the armband on reminding all of the kids that he is on some record or other and he needs to be the one banging them in. Fair do, he has, but he doesn't carry the constant goal threat that he did a few years ago and his pace and general fitness is several levels below where it ought to be for someone who is still only 30.

Nobody in their right mind would put Rooney back in the side at this point in time and, personally, while I don't like to see anyone out injured, his injury could prove to be a godsend for us in the run-in to the end of the season. Rashford and the other youngsters know each other's game inside out having come through the academy together and are having a great time making the most of their opportunities and have injected some energy into the side.

Too many times Rooney gets impatient for the ball and comes too deep to collect it, the end result being that he is out of position and the play breaks down and he nips off for a pie and a ***. These kids are all over the pitch, they are defending well and can break with pace that Rooney simply can't match. While there is still a market for him we should sell him on and get a decent striker - even the kids won't mind being on the bench if the main striker is banging them in for fun. If we don't sell, then train him up for life in the midfield and hope he can bang in 8 or so per season for good measure.

Got to say, I can't imagine him saying or doing either of those things. He's not that type at all.
    Ronaldo? Yes. Rooney, no.

As for his perceived lack of pace, he's no slower than Mata and could comfortably offer an alternative and competition to him.

Why sell him? Makes no sense. Yes, Rashford and, particularly, Martial offer pace and goals but Rooney offers an experienced alternative and loads of nous that we'd be mad to get rid of.

On last night's showing, England don't need him either. Fantastic, flowing performance from the youngsters even when they were behind. Rooney's future must surely be in the balance with the Euros so close and the likes of Kane, Vardi and Ali in such great form. Off topic, but that Rose would be a great addition to our side - reminded me a lot of Evra at his peak.

You could look at it that way. Or you could say England would have won 6-2 had Rooney played <diva>

In all seriousness, anyone who thinks in the actual tournament (which is where it matters) we'd be coming back from 2-0 down against ze germans, really needs a reality check.

Agreed, but that was still a very strong German side with only one or two of their first-team missing.
