Why do we put the clocks forward or back. Do we need to? Good quote from Hitchens here A Cherokee elder baffled by the paleface habit of messing around with clocks, once asked, What sort of person thinks that by cutting off one end of a blanket, and then sewing it on the other end, he gets a longer blanket?
It's so that you don't need to get up so early innit. For the next 6 months you can have an extra hour in bed every day and get up an hour later than it actually is. Sorted.
It's for BBQs It means it's warmer when you get in from work so it's easier to crack open a beer and chuck some meat on the BBQ No point in Winter so that time of the year is designed for lighting a real fire inside and settling down in front of it with a nice single malt It's all designed round fire and booze...like most things
Mr Tash, you never enjoyed a BBQ in the winter? Add it to your bucket list. BBQing in the snow is a laugh.
I have In fact I once BBQ'd in the snow on New Year's Eve (in a sarong for some reason) But an hours longer sun wouldn't have made any difference, whereas it does in the Summer It's science in'it
Well played. I've no idea what a sarong is, is it like a more fuller thong? I'll add that to my bucket list.
With all these digital timepieces including the clock in the car it's a lot easier putting the clocks forward. Would make more sense if we put them forward in spring and autumn.
Only time wise. A true, maybe not overly interesting story is that at my local car dealers a couple of their customers are only ever seen once a year at the end of October cos they don't know how to put their clocks back. That story's even more boring than I thought now I've just read it back.
It's not that boring. But it doesn't make any sense. If they don't go in Spring to have them put forward then they won't need them putting back in October. Unless they know how to move the clock on an hour but not back. I'm intrigued now. Which Dealership is it? I'll give them a bell.
I always like Dunbar in Catch 22. He was that afraid of dying he liked to do boring things to make the time pass more slowly.
Yeah Ern, their ok in March putting them forward it's October they can't cope with. The salesman I was talking to said it was handy when he sees Mrs.Jones walk in cos it reminds him to check all the clocks at the dealership and all his own personal timepieces. He said Mrs.Jones is always the first to walk in.
I certainly agree with this, and with the oil price where it is just now they would have soon been bankrupt.
Dennis you are indeed a wise man.!!! Nothing like a few real ales and a fire in the old town pubs on a dark winters night
