Never going to be first pick against Varane and Kolscielny but thought he may have got a run out second half.
Two of our lads did ok in that game, 2 assists for Memphis and 1 for Martial <ok>

I've named about 22-24 clubs which I think should be given qualification first and foremost. That still leaves 8-10 from the other leagues. Also covered the aspect of "elitism" against the likes of Apoel or whoever to have the same pre-qualifiers but in my scenario it would be against the 6th placed teams like typically Spurs, Sevilla, AC Milan. If they're the next Red Star they'll get through.

I get that everyone should have a chance but at the moment it's gone too far the other way. It's a bit like the "winning doesnt matter it's the taking part that counts" mentality we had in schools a while back. All it did was weaken the standards and quality of sport. I think a better balance can be had in the CL.

Given that Sakho has more caps than Kos despite being 5 years younger would suggest he is first pick.

France will be a powerhouse in a few years I reckon - Laporte, Varane, Pogba, Griezeman, Martial, Lacazette. So much talent.

I note that Courtois is a total merc.

Says until now he's always won a trophy and this year has left a mark on him.

    Total..... bullshit.

No wonder chelsea struggle when half the team are looking at moves and gave up.

Willian is the only impressive player who's worked for chelsea.

I think they could be but it depends on the development of players in other areas. Griezmann, Martian & Lacazette are all strikers really. They haven't got much out wide and there is a clear weakness in wide areas for them in my opinion. It also shows their lack of depth when Sissoko, Diarra, Jallet, Gignac etc. are still in the squad.

Both ... reckon they'd be happier at a team matching their ambitions

Both. I think I'd pick Courtois out of the two because he plays in a position we are weaker in.

Giroud and Gomis as well, loads!

Ofcourse Payet and Pogba behind is a solid attack with a bit of steel. Schneiderlin, Cabaye, Matuidi and Kondogbia as well.

Wide players watch out for a kid called Coman at loan at Bayern. Other than that there might be some in Ligue but who watches that. That's the only weakness tbf.

Gomis isn't getting near the French squad the way he's playing!!

I just look at their full backs & wingers and think they're struggling. I know they'll probably play Martial on the left but I don't think he's much cop as an out an out winger, he's at his best up front running in behind.

Yeah, Coman, he's the guy that basically single handedly knocked Juve out of the CL, isn't he? On loan from them as well, somebody ****ed up with the contract there.

Essentially they've got a load of guys who they have to play out of position to fit them into the team. Like Martial, Griezmann etc. and I think that's sometimes a burden on managers because the balance in teams are usually off when they have players playing in unfamiliar positions. It's what always holds R.Madrid back in my opinion.

That last bit about RM is a great shout <ok>

I'm not sure you need to worry about wingers. I always think if you can get the balance of the midfield right with a couple of decent strikers that's all you need at the national level. Or any knockout competition. Look at Liverpool over the last 15 years :bandit:

Here's a topical question due to chants etc..Is it OK for England fans to sing the Dambusters tune in modern day Germany when Operation Chastise killed 1600 civilians?

<laugh> True. I think with Liverpool we had Owen in the early 2000s and then Gerrard the rest of the time who could pretty much win games single handedly.

It's why I think we (Wales) could actually do decent in the Euros, because we've got a relatively solid defence and we've got one world class match winner up top. Defence seems to be the most important aspect of knock-out competitions.

Tyldesley telling me that although I like club football, it's internationals that I really live for.
****, now he tells me- I've been getting that wrong for fifty years.

He also says England are unlucky to be a goal down.
He's right there- it should be two.
