£25 million? It was £20.2 million. We got him on a cut price deal because we agreed to sell Luis Garcia to Athletico Madrid in a cut price deal.Luis Garcia as it happened wanted to return to Spain for personal reasons. According to John Aldridge, the UK's highest ever goalscorer so he should know something about goal-scoring,He's scored more goals than anyone, more than Shearer,Rush,Greaves.Torres at the top level is finished.Aldo said that he will score goals, but not at the rate he once did as he has lost a yard of pace.He also said Liverpool selling him when they did was a fantastic piece of business,a £30 million profit on someone that is effectively past their best.Chelsea paid £50 million for damaged goods.
I didn't think I came accross as bitter at all and some of the other posts by Liverpool fans are not bitter, I find it interesting that this player just doesn't seem happy playing football when he could be regarded as one of the best strikers in the world. You are the person going off on one.
£23.5 million was the final total. When duel deals are done, one fee is taken off the other to prevent clubs paying each other money. Similar to when Portsmouth sold Glen Johnson to Liverpool, even though it will state that Portsmouth got £17.5 million..they didn't.they got £10.5 million,as they already owed Liverpool £7 million from the £11 million Crouch deal.In the balance sheet it will show that Portsmouth got £17.5 million and Liverpool got £11 million...however in reality this is not the case,Portsmouth got £10.5 million and Liverpool got £4 million.
I thought that the values would be offset against each other, such as when we bought Ashley Cole from Arsenal for £5m plus Gallas...On that basis Garcia was only worth £2.3m...is that right? One **** of a player for £2.3m...
They are off-set against each other. It prevents complications of two clubs giving each other money. Another example was the Robbie Keane-Spurs to Liverpool to Spurs deal.It will go down that Liverpool put down a £10 million deposit with £9 million paid the following year with another £1.3 million based on success. However seeing as Spurs got him back, they just gave Liverpool back their £10 million...even though it will suggest that Liverpool got £16 million in cash and will get £3 million in add-ons.Its just for paper-work purposes. Another one was Michael Owen to Real Madrid from Liverpool and Fernando Morientes to Liverpool from Real Madrid. The paper work will show that Liverpool got £8.5 million in cash from Real Madrid...they didn't.They got £4.5 million, there was £4 million outstanding. Therefore Morientes cost £6.3 million therefore Real Madrid got £2.3 milion in cash.
But as KPR said earlier, Luis garcia wanted to return to Spain for personal reasons so the price was discounted. A real gentleman was Luis, you should have read the personal letter that he left for the supporters - you should also have heared the reception he got when he came back to Anfield as an opposing player. But you're right "One **** of a player for £2.3m... "
Hope he fails, but i'd be surprised if he doesn't turn a corner at some point. The amount of chances Chelsea create, surely he will score a couple eventually.
Firstly i wouldnt say 22 goals in a season is not performing, its not amazing but its still above average. so not performed in like a year and half, i also think torres will be a succes at chelsea, slow start thats it
Oh! a bit confusing then when you stated "highest ever goalscorer" and "he's scored more goals than anyone" Does that make his achievement any the less effective then? Or does it suit your ill researched statement credible?
I would imagine Celtic's opponents would have been relatively equal or marginally better than some of the teams Oxford Town & Newport County had to face back then.
