Strangely enough the bass player and creator of Altered Images Johnny McElhone also created Texas and discovered Sharleen Spiteri when she worked in a hairdressers.

''It was when she was 17 and working as a hairdresser that Spiteri auditioned for Johnny McElhone, a bass guitarist, who was looking for a singer for his new band, Texas. Spiteri sang an unaccompanied version of Culture Club's Do You Really Want to Hurt Me? and impressed McElhone so much he asked her to join on the spot. She says that from the beginning she was adamant about making the kind of music she wanted to and about what the band should look like. 'People would ask me to do things and I'd just be, "Nah,"' she says. 'I refused to be photographed on my own. I refused to wear anything other than a biker jacket and a pair of jeans. My attitude was, "You want to photograph me, photograph me. If you don't, don't."

I love Kirsty MacColl, what a sad and tragic end to such a great talent. What happened to her was terrible and the perpetrator got away with murder. Bless you Kirsty xxx

I'm enjoying this thread - and finding new music all the time I've missed.

How's 2nd division mid table obscurity suiting you QPR fans? <sorry>

I just love the thumping 70's glam rock/Bowie sound that song has. Humble Pie never got the exposure or recognition they truly deserved imo. Steve Marriott is a hero of mine. Very tragic and sad his untimely departure from this weird and wonderful trip we call life.
