One of mine, too, and apparently a gentleman according to what I've heard over the last 4 decades He seemed to know the game 'inside out' and he really was worthy of the term 'legend' R.I.P.
here they are thinking of naming the Amsterdam ARENA Arena after him, died of lung cancer, if the women dont get you the tabs will, hope he had a canny time in Barcelona before he popped his cloggs
One of the truly greats of the game. Did it all as a player and manager which, for me, places him higher than Pele and Maradonna. I was in the stadium at Dortmund when he did the famous turn in 1974 but did not see it properly until the WC TV programme that night. I thought "how did I miss that", but then I bet the Swede did as well.
Lived in Monchengladbach from 72-75 and worked with Dutch, German and Belgians and for all we were NATO assigned the Russians would have taken over easily during the 74 WC. I was part of an absolutely stone mad contingent of Dutch supporters and also took part in a brewery competition for final tickets but I reckon they did not like the name. I got the four semi-finalists right and won an October Fest weekend, but wife came.
