Not me. I've always said that winning the Europa is a very very long shot for us. we might get away with it in the premiership but in European competition our dreadful defence gets found out easily.

Many of our fans take optimism to the limit

 

So various reports of a change to the champions league maybe coming in as soon as 2018.

Knockout rounds to start with the top 16 seeds coming in later. Whittled down to 16 which then go into two groups of 8 who play 14 matches. Then semis and final.

Apparently all the European clubs are jealous of our money...example given...Villa if finish last will get 100M.

They would also extend the clubs that qualify for CL prelim knockout phase.

The FA would get rid of FA cup replays and introduce a winter break after the Xmas fixtures.

What do you think? End of Europa league?

Obviously money driven but what about fans?

Would it mean PL clubs going into it would effectively need two teams?

word is that uefa is looking at new formats.

What this says to me is european super league...

and "expanded knockout" could easily mean more places for big leagues so I would say italy are not happy and we won't be happy when we lose out spot.

would you bother watching if after 2/3 games you are effectively out?

2 groups of 8 with how many qualifying out of them? 4?

 

I think my idea for European football was better but UEFA never listens to me.

The couple of reports I've read suggest that's what we all met to talk about.

Pro's for European Clubs...more money.

Pro's for PL teams...more places in the CL...albeit the prelim knockout phases. Surely that's more favourable to the LFC's of the PL who aren't consistently getting top 4 under current system?

Also the probability of no more FA Cup replays and a post xmas winter break.

As I asked though...surely this is the death of the Europa League if it goes through?

I would agree on cup replays and league cup sem ifinal 2 legs.

but i'd add in, this NEEDS 18 team top domestic leagues not 20 team.

Its going to assure a lot of teams play 2 games a week consistently.

 

So basically they want to switch the group stage and KO stage around and then go straight to SF or QFs.

They want more 'big' games, more Real vs Barca type games without one of them being Knocked out straight away.

 

I thin kthey will end up with more... well boring games nobody really cares about.

If theobjective is to increase standard then more knockouts will do that... but...

this woulld require seeding to put top teams in groups. if not a ream might need to play 14+say 6 to get to groups = 20 games before you even get to QF.

I think most clubs can play 8 games in europe and not care. once you go past that its getting harder.

Sapin would need to drop home and away in copa del rey
we would need to drop capital one cup or make it for reserves as in all likelyhood it will become irrelevant as it can't have a euopean slot any more in this.

I could see an parallet and much much smaller cup winners up with this thing but not europa league..

 

I wouldn't mind if they scrapped the EL and merged it all together.

They could still have two competitions actually, just don't drop failed teams into the other. All teams should start in the same competition...No game prior to the group stage bar perhaps qualifiers. All teams that qualify for Europe get draw in the same group stage (based on the eight team league suggestion above) and let the top two qualify for CL and third and fourth go into EL, the rest are out.

I've suggested this before with a four team group. Top team goes into CL, second is EL, other two are out.

 

yeah but... well... the good games get split up and then a lot of uninteresting games there.

 

If there are groups with eight teams in, there will be some big games still. If it went the four teams in a group format, just scrap the seeding.

Agreed. Unless we're involved (been a while), I find the latter stages a bit boring because its the same teams all the team. Never get bored of watching Barca though.

How long until the FA try to adapt a league format in the FA Cup? One PL team and three others.

 

I think people would be very unhappy with 2 out of 8 going into semis form each side of draw.

In effect you have seed and you put say juve and barca in one side and bayern and real in the other and currently nobody else would have a sniff.

by game 3 you'd start seeing dead rubbers and by game 6 I'd not even bother turning in for it.

I think fans would be pretty bored pretty quick.

Also what it says is the top 16 get to play 14 games plus 2 sf and one final

but if you are not top 16 you might have to play 2 or 3 knockouts on top of that and its a whole other season.

b) kills copa del rey format in spain
c) requires less league games in england and spain.
