Inter Milan chief executive Michael Bolingbroke told the BBC this week that he saw merit in the idea of Champions League wildcards for teams that have not qualified through their league position.

No, no...a thousand times no. This will be just a free ticket for teams like ManU who may not qualify by league place. Just bloody wrong.

OF course teams like Inter are going to want it, they see how much money the PL is getting and want a slice of the pie cos Serie A is failing at the moment.

No way!! It would be a disaster if this happened. Who would decide on the reasons for a wildcard? Historical performances? Unbelievable! :emoticon-0121-angry

I would love it to go back to the straight knockout like it used to be. Then you could bring back the Cup Winners Cup which might give a shot in the arm for the domestic cup competitions.

As it is, the same fixtures seem to happen every year and they lose the edge they might have had. This new proposal would suggest that this is likely to happen more often as the 'smaller' teams fall away before the group stage.

  6. Southampton are desperate to hold on to manager Ronald Koeman, who hopes to manage a major club in the near future. (Bleacher Report)

    Ouch!

    That's gotta hurt, eh, lads?

Not really. We know we've got one more season with him. At least we're realistic with it though eh?

Spurs fans think Poch would turn down United for them <laugh><laugh>

And NO , it doesn't hurt . You HIAG sometimes seem OK , at other times , I am Certain you just enjoy playing the WUM game .

I love the way a perfectly normal thing like wanting to extending a manager's contract is described in dramatic language. It is hardly going to occupy anyone's every waking thought. There will be discussions eventually (if not already) about what Koeman wants and we can offer him, but it also possible that he has told them yes or no already. Pretty confident that the replacement list is also being updated regularly. Les Reed doesn't do panic.

Which would help reduce the fixture congestion, that the top clubs are always complaining about - especially if the competition only included "champions".

Then combine it with the Europa League into one big seeded FA Cup style knockout.

Added bonus of scrapping the Europa League.
