WE need to strengthen .. that's a no brainer, but WHO and WHERE .. We are up against it as it stands Fulham Cardiff Hull Burnley QPR Reading WHO ARE ALL LIKELY TO STILL MANAGE TO REAP THE BENEFIT OF THE PARACHUTE PAYMENT ... and VILLA ... plus a NE club OR BOTH /Norwich/ Palace who before Bolasie's few months out were going well! Only 2 of the 6 are likely to go back up this season! A STRIKER with Odemwingie ?/ Wilbers we are probably in need of another Kodija /young hopeful but do we already have that in the players coming via the academy? A MIDFIELDER ... with Tomlin? who I think is a good foil between the MF and attack another play maker would be handy ... A DEFENDER/ attacking defender .. Baker could we sign him? Mathews? along with Flint Ayling Williams Bryan and Little we have the makings. ( should Mathews perform well in next few weeks he could well increase substantially in value , should we gamble? get pre season contract sorted !) Behind the scenes we should currently be restructuring our contracts / getting ahead of the game with loan players we need to confirm on contract so that on day one after the season's end we can say ...signed players are so and so, and these players are up for offer! .......
the loan market next season ....... With no loan market next season? ..not really read up on it .... that would mean Clubs academy players would be unable to be farmed out or is the loan market still operational during the transfer windows .. and what about goal keepers? most clubs usually have 2-3 but often there is a crisis ...
The ability to compete will become more difficult as the seasons progress and the Premier League tightens it's foreign grip on the throats of English football as it was. The price of players will reach a point in the next 2 years that will be way beyond the financing available down at Ashton Gate, and when your hear of some teams spending beyond all reasoning to get themselves back to the supposed promised land you know they had a soft landing due to the parachute handed to them just before they jumped from a great height. We have all known what is needed for years and are still waiting for the news from the emergency department on the prognosis from our managerial surgeons. The simple answer as to what we need is footballing nuance, combined with common sense, a commodity in short abundance with Bristol City, and whether our management is prepared to admit it or not we have seriously missed the boat but if you are not prepared to push the boat out from time to time then you deserve your fate. Everything about today's world is cloaked in corruption and greed and the future of our club is regrettably in the hands of the people we have allowed to hijack the game who have little or no respect for the sanctity and history of the sport. I just cannot see a way out of the financial mess that awaits the teams willing to throw their hat in to the ring with the big boys and expect to come out the other end with their dignity intact. The rules have changed to the advantage of the chosen few over the last several years and it will only get worse for clubs like Bristol City who were unable to get on the bandwagon when it mattered most. Unless Lee has a magic wand, or connections somewhere unheard of, to find players under some rock or other then we could end up with another season of struggling until the inevitable happens. A difficult summer awaits and I would not like our chances in the new player market when we can expect millions to be spent by our opposition, especially those with help from above, whilst we are forced to sit on the sidelines twiddling our thumbs and wonder where we go from here. On a brighter note we can always admire Leicester for the ability to overcome the odds and some will say that their superior attendances have filled the money pot better than ours, but by the time we reach that same point the price of admission to join the elite will have disappeared from view, possibly forever. Who wants to own a football club?
To be honest, removing the loan window will then force clubs to either be proactive or fall on their swords. You imagine if it was this season, would our transfer shambles occurred then? No it wouldn't. Plus taken it away from teams recieving also has an effect on the teams like Arsenal, Chelsea who could have theoretically three teams being hampered on loaning out players, so stops them and the likes of them hoarding players on the chance that they might become good. I think some are looking at this ruling too negative to be able to see that could be the ruling that shakes the trees and pushes unheard of gems out to other clubs. But anyway back to the negativity folks, it amuses me
