In their first full top flight seasons? I think that's a fair comparison. Carroll 24 Games - 13 Goals - 6 Assists Aguero 38 Games - 6 Goals - 3 Assists In their respective international careers, Carroll has played 2 games and scored 1 goal, a ratio of a goal every two games. Aguero has played 30 games and scored 13 goals, giving him a ratio of just over a goal every three games. Conclusive proof
Hmmmm. Don't really care about first season. Talking about now or if you wish, the goals etc Carroll had scored when he was signed from Newcastle compared to that of Agüero now. But good attempt to show figures that make Carroll look good. You wouldn't be trying to claim he was a better signing would you?
A question, son. A question. I think all of you have missed the fact that I haven't discredited Bob Paisley once. He was clearly a fantastic manager who got the very best out of his team domestically and in Europe. I'm not disputing that for a moment, but to discredit Ferguson in the way some do is plain stupid.
How can you rate the signing of Aguero without him even playing? What next, Veron was a better signing than Alonso because he was better at Lazio than Alonso was at Sociedad?
Doubt it, but he has certainly made you look a daft **** for trying to use the stats to prove otherwise.
Son? I haven't discredited fergie either. Anyway back to your "son" nonsense, if you are old enough to use that phrase you really have no excuse for your tripe about utd being rubbish when fergie took over. Utd were firmly in the top 4 for several years before fergie came and they won the FA two years before. If fergie is that great for taking so long to win anything, what does that make Rafa for winning the CL in his first season
It's highly debatable which is harder. Taking over a successful team and making them even more successful over a 9 year period, or taking over a bag of s...e, throwing a load of money at it, and taking an age to overtake the other manager - nearly three times as long. Oh and he's still only got 2 of them to his name. Give me Busby any day. Winning it the first time was a great achievement, and the man had class.
To be fair, in his first six seasons at Newcastle (before joining 'pool) Carroll got 33 goals in 91 games, 0.36 goals per game. In Aguero's first six seasons he got 53 goals in 148 games, also 0.36 goals per game. In Aguero's time at Atletico his goal scoring record is 102 in 234, so at 0.44 goals per game that puts him ahead of Carroll. But then that's the premium you can end up paying for young English players. Aguero is the better player in my opinion, and yes probably represents better value. But the fact he's going for almost £40 million does imply Liverpool maybe weren't as ripped off for Carroll as we'd like to believe. But then it's hard to compare the value of the players until they've both actually played a full season.
Probably, but seeing as it was you who asked for the stats just shows that you haven't learned your lesson
Utd fan asked for stats and was given stats by the Liverpool fan yet stats according to them can prove anything. So why quote them if they are so useless? Swarbs £35 million for Carroll is not good business. Remember Steve Clarke didn't want him at West Ham for £1 million.
Well why ask then You don't need stats to prove everything, eg people only need to read your posts for proof that you are a tool!
Can't be arsed with the whole Busby / Shankly / Paisley / Ferguson debate again. Like BBF said last night with players, there is no way to prove which of them was better and the argument will go on forever. But there's a couple of things worth noting. Firstly Paisley played a big part of Liverpool's success as part of the Boot Room under Shankly. So it wasn't like he came into the club as a completely new manager - he'd had 15 years to work with the club and the players and understand the whole thing. In that time he got to experience much of the painful club building, learning process and underachievement (1967-72) that SAF also went through at Utd, so he had a bit of a head start imo. Secondly SAF couldn't get Utd into Europe for the first four years of his reign due to the ban, so he's only had around twice as long as Paisley had in Europe. Yes, Paisley still has a better record, but you don't need to exaggerate quite how much better it is
To be honest mate value in football terms is all in the context. If Carroll's goals make the difference between Liverpool coming 4th and 5th next season (i.e. £40 million CL or £5 million EL) then he'll probably have been worth every penny. But don't worry, if he flops like the bastard love child of Diego Forlan and Fernando Morientes then I will be pissing myself with laughter as much as any other Utd fan
I have no problem with stats hence the reason I asked. Didn't you grasp that? Anyway I suppose stats are only useful when muppets say 5 is greater than 19.
You are doing it again! anyway just on the bit I quoted, the usual question about how many years he would have actually qualified for the Champions cup/league during the ban?
That can be said of every signing. I remember hearing a football agent answering a question about an expensive signing (cannot recall who) say the multi million purchase was worth it if the club who paid the money noticed some improvement in their fortunes. Got a lot to prove does Mr. Carroll.
