Probably agree Yorkie. I seem to remember lots of discussion about allowing the Police to monitor calls, messages emails etc. But one of the lessons of these attacks is that they use lots of throw away phones, so none of those measures will be any good.

The Belgian police and security forces do not work well together and there is a certain rivalry between areas - particularly between the Flemish and Walloon areas of the country, which makes things difficult, particularly when you think that Belgium has the highest rate of naturalization in Europe (90 % of all immigrants there have Belgian nationality). Even more worrying for me is that their nuclear power stations are the oldest in Europe - situated nice and close to the German and Dutch borders ! In their defence they have the best beer in Europe ! - they also breed the biggest rabbits, which combines to produce rabbit in beer sauce (one of the highlights of European cuisine). Seriously though I like the country a lot and have spent many happy times there - boozed up on the Christmas markets in Liege for example - but everything is very disorganized there (apart from their breweries) even the quality of their roads differs greatly between Flemish and Walloon areas - also the political parties there are split into Flemish and Walloon sections, there is no one party for the whole country.

I am rather partial to proper Belgian beer, not that Stella crap...problem is most are very strong and in my dotage I struggle to handle them. But Rabbit in beer sauce - poor Mrs W_Y would have kittens at the very thought of it!

I wonder what people now make of the budget turnaround by Osbourne.... given that he was actually getting away with it until IDS resigned.

I dont know how often but it is most uncommon for such a thing to happen in a Budget.

For me he comes across as an arrogant man who has never suffered himself and sees himself as above such people. Not an ounce of compassion....

Is it possible ot discuss this in relation to values and morals and not party politics.

Of course he was in it with Cameron....

Is it a coincidence that your 'non party politics' always involves party politics?

    C'mon....

    I didn't say that did I?

In his case it raises for me even more questions.

No doubt one of you will put me right but what occurred is most unusual.

    Yorkie, your words were:-

For me he comes across as an arrogant man who has never suffered himself and sees himself as above such people. Not an ounce of compassion....
Is it possible ot discuss this in relation to values and morals and not party politics.
Of course he was in it with Cameron....

So your assertion is that Osborne is an arrogant man who has never suffered - is that correct?
You then stated you wanted to discuss morals and values and not party politics
But then stated that he was in it with Cameron, thus insinuating that Cameron has the same morals and values and has not suffered - so I was merely pointing out that in my opinion Cameron probably has suffered and has experience of people with disabilities.
But surely that is not stopping you or anyone else discussing the morals and values of Osborne and/or Cameron? Also please note, I have also not brought party politics into this discussion.

In the interest of fairness I'm sure we will be invited to discuss the morals of some of the Labour Party stalwarts.

    Just don't hold your breath!

I said.... "For me he comes across as an arrogant man who has never suffered and sees himself above such people" Perhaps I could have put ..." suffered such a disability."

I did not make the same comment about Cameron ......

I just added that Cameron was in the decision too.....

I wanted to ask people to consider morals and values as for me they transcend politics.

It seems to me that Osbourne ( and others) have little concern for the suffering of the poor, disabled and oppressed or fairness

Fair enough Yorkie, regarding Osborne I could not say either way for the level of his concern for the poor, disabled or oppressed, I have not seen any evidence to suggest he does or doesn't. But as he is a politician, I would err on the side that he would say whatever he has to - not may Politicians have deep seated morals.
