If it wasnt for the manner in which they left I would have them both back, Beye was always a far better RB than Simpson is and would be decent competition for him now even if he is getting on.

As for Bassong I always thought he was class and hes better than both Saylor and Williamson, I think him and Colo at the back would be solid as a rock.

But at the end of the day they didnt want to stay with us, they are part of the group who jumped ship at the first opportunity, I'd rather we looked elsewhere.

I'd have Bassong back, and £4.5m isn't a bad price, wouldn't take Beye though.

Saylor is better than Bassong. I personally feel Saylor > Colo.

Bassong , I'd take back in a heart beat. Player of the year 2008/9. At least he was honest wanting EPL football in wanting to leave. Club made millions from his sale. Nothing wrong with that. Who did we buy to replace?
Compare that with £4million a year we waste on Xisco and Smith who are happy to stick around collecting cash for sitting on their a**es.

In my view , there's nothing wrong in wanting to strengthen the defence.

There is disagreeing and then there is <doh>....

I'll back my opinion up with my reasoning, I still think Colo gets beaten in the air too easily, and is still weak. I think he reads the game slightly better than Taylor and most other defenders but they have similar pace, and Taylor is much bigger and stronger. Both are good on the ball. Taylor is far braver as well, Colo often turns away from shots whilst Taylor gets in front.

That was me disagreeing without actually typing "I disagree" for future reference ;)

I agree that Taylor is bigger and stronger and definitely more of a goal threat but I think Coloccini's overall positioning and tackling is superior to Taylor's he seems to read the game well and rarely gets "done" by strikers, Taylor can be very good on his day but I've found him to be inconsistent over the years but with a run in the team he could potentially be our best CB who knows.

Bassong from the games I've seen him play for us and since leaving us just seems the complete package, reads the game well is a very good tough tackler and is probably slightly quicker than both and I'm surprised more clubs arent after him. Terrible at LB though.

    Oh fair!

Colo is a better tackler, Taylor is better in the air and shoulder to shoulder, both got a bit of pace. Colo reads the game better but Saylor is the goalline clearance master! I think if we keep them both fit and on form we should have a solid defence(apart from RB).

Bassong is quicker, is strong in the tackle, I think he definitely lacks a bit of positional sense. He plays the same side as Colo as well to be fair. I just think he is good but not outstanding in any area.

Fair does if that's what you think <ok>

So where do you think Williamson fits in, in terms of ability compared to the rest? I'm still undecided myself as to whom my perma back two would be.

For me, when Saylor is on form, he and Colo are a formidable partnership but if Saylor was to lose form you know exactly what you're getting from Williamson - a solid, if unspectacular option. Good 3rd choice and has kept Saylor out of the side before.

I think he is decent. But is very slow, quite weak and poor in the air for a man of his size. Reads the game well though. Is poor on the ball and is basic. I think he is decent back up for now.

Seems to deflect a lot of shots into our own net also :|

Very reliable though and last season I rated him above Taylor, but Taylor's end of season form and the fact he seems to be over his injury worries for the moment would probably see me opt for Taylor & Colo as the main pair, I really hope Taylor can keep banging them in like he did at the end of last season, it could help a lot.

Taylor is so good in the opposition area!

He was awesome when he played mid season as well before he played RB for a game and had a shocker!

Villa game? 1-0 loss? He was shocking, overall one of the worst games of our season.
