To keep a clean sheet? 18 games, all the way back to Stoke. Gone ahead in the last 3 games but still somehow manage to let it slip. Also something like 15 games for Mannone without a blank. This Rodwell jinx man.
I think it's down to a culmination of years of being poor results wise. We just don't at the moment have the mental strength to see out games...or probably better known as winning mentality. We have a core of good players now and think we can rectify this hopefully sooner rather than later. All though I think I'm one of Rodwell's biggest critics I think he had a decent game today. All I ask from the lad is don't disappear in the game. Kaboul and Kone look good together and with Kirchoff in front of them we look stronger although he's not lasting the game. However, I seen a stat about him running over 10k metres...if that is right that is tremendous for a big guy. I think whatever happens this season Pickford will be first choice next season....need a clean sheet at Norwich....obviously.
I don't think so....Big Sam is an easy target for that I think. Take the Southampton for instance. Putting John O'Shea on for the last 5 minutes to shut up shop I was ok with. Then it was him who gave their central defender too much room to get his shot in for the equalizer, Can't legislate for that....neither today for Yedlin's foul throw or PVA not clearing into the stands at West Ham. As we improve the team...better players do less make mistakes. Big Sam has to work with what he has....
I do not normally like to criticise individual players but N'doye not crowding out Winegum for that cross was a big part of their goal but Mannone must share some blame as he followed the ball across the goal but was a statue for the header. Biggest moan from me was that we allowed ourselves to lose the initiative and barley hurt them in the second half. Playing the ball out rather than long balling it for Borini and Defoe to chase or turn their slow defence.
But BSA rates JR - a stone and hard place - think it's more to do with the BSA negative substitutions leading to a negative team mindset and then theyplay too deep - not Mannone's fault imo
A few half decent ones lately but it doesnt cover over the cracks for me. Dont forget this was a 10m rated player, one many of us thought was a cracking buy, but overall has been gash.
This season in the league: WBA have failed to score in 10 games Leicester have failed to score in 3 games Norwich have failed to score in 11 games Arsenal have failed to score in 6 games Stoke have failed to score in 11 games Chelsea have failed to score in 6 games Everton have failed to score in 7 games Watford have failed to score in 12 games Those in bold have to be your best chance of a clean sheet. Score one against these teams and there's an increased likelihood that you'll take all 3 points. For those not in bold, you will almost certainly need to score more than once to take 3 points, although a point in any of those games should be seen as a decent result.
Just showing you some pointless stats mate, so you know when to maybe expect a clean sheet. Obviously you've more chance of seeing clean sheets in a Pattaya Scat brothel than at a Sunderland game
There is no doubt that we have improved since the 3 new signings came in. We have even improved in defence since the turn of the year. I do actully think BSA is partly responsible tho for us not seeing games out with late subs. Leave Kirchsoff on the whole game for one thing! But we do look good going forward and carry a genuine goal threat. We just need a couple clean sheets now. I just hope it doesn't become a mental thing and we start sitting too deep as the game goes on when we are winning...which it already appears to be the case...
Thing is although Newcastle bossed the second half they never really threatened apart from the goal in the main we defended well and all Mannone had to do was save a few trickles that were straight at him. We are defending well we just need a little bit of luck and we will keep a few clean sheets. For the goal there was little we could do a good bit of skill a good cross and a good header where the centre forward got isolated against a small full back. We couldn't get anything going at the other end all second half therefore the ball just kept coming back. That is what concerns me more.
You'd have lost the game if M'Vila never cleared that one off the line I thought Newcastle looked pretty decent 2nd half, you lot dealt with them well though. Neither team are a great attacking force.
I said yesterday have we won a game with Rodwell in the team ?, Pants leaving was a mistake as well. Why did Sam change the team when were winning , he makes some strange subs, and their goal was a soft one and I could see them equalising. Defended too deep AGAIN has cost us. Norwich will be the game of the season now and we have to end a loss record there going back to 1985. We have not turned the corner since beating Man u, Kahzri is not doing it and rodwell will never do it. WBA and Mclean up next, but Norwich will most likely beat the mags, so we will be playing catch up and the Everton game was put back far too late in the season who the hell thought that up ?
