Right. So Bruce, who is underperforming, should be held accountable? The players follow his instructions, it's not as though they get together and decide collectively to play crap. He's not using them properly or he's not using the right tactics to suit them. We've seen it a lot over the years with Bruce that he has a certain tactic and he tries to fit the players he has into it. Every other manager seems to do it the other way around.
Actual football isn't like playing a video game where you control how the players perform on the actual pitch. Yes, I agree, on occasion, his initial tactics, or subs etc have been baffling. The fact remains that once they run over the white line, the 11 players have some responsibility for their performance. Bruce isn't sat there with an X Box controller for goodness sake. He has played strikers, and they haven't scored. They've looked uninterested and NOT put in the effort they're paid to do so. Yet you think Bruce is entirely responsible for that. Not the players. Like I said, I find that attitude baffling.
I actually find the whole Bruce to Villa thing a bit of a laugh. The guy who owns the club is rich beyond Allams dreams, shows no sign of wanting to sell Villa and I feel sure 'if he wanted' would make plenty of money available to resurrect a once big club and get them back in the Premiership. Lets be honest, if you owned the club, I think the question i'd have to ask is Steve Who!!!?
Ah. So the problem is not the way the manager plays his attackers, but the fact that the ones we have are not good enough? If results are disappointing, it's because we're not scoring enough goals and winning enough games. We don't score enough because the attackers are not good enough, not because the defence is letting in too many goals or the midfield is coming off second best on a regular basis. This is a recruitment failing rather than a tactical or performance failing.
You know better than I OLM…. question… are he and the Allams related or do they have the same accountants…?
All on the word of Stan Collymore. Even if this is true - and it could be - then maybe Moyes and Pearson also want the job, Who says Villa would have SB as their first choice? Maybe they would set their sights "higher" and approach one of the other two or someone else? I reckon Villa supporters would be seriously underwhelmed if they appointed SB,
It's not all on the word of Collymore, this thread was started based on an article linking him to the job two weeks ago. Moyes won't be interested, if they've got any sense, they'll go for Pearson.
Allam Snr hates the idea of employees leaving voluntarily and brags that no one resigns from his company, they go when he sacks them. Bruce is entirely responsible for the players performances. That's his one job. Allam isn't going to start sacking players for not performing is he? Well, most chairmen wouldn't anyway. It's the managers job to look after all that and if they aren't performing then of course it's his job to drop or replace them. The manager is 100% accountable for what happens on the pitch. The players are accountable to him and he has every power to deal with them if they don't perform. I think it's irrelevant because the majority do perform anyway, it's just the strikers aren't anywhere near up to it.
I really do not get that viewpoint. The players are responsible for their own performances. The strikers are there to score. They're not. They are at least partly responsible for that surely? Obviously they're not going to be sacked, but they'll be benched, or left out, then we see people blaming Bruce for that, even though, if he does play them, they're ****e.
They're responsible only to the manager. If the manager can't get them playing over a period of time that is entirely his responsibility. It's not even a viewpoint, it's just how hierarchy works. It's why chairmen sack managers when the team is underperforming. I agree that at times managers get criticised by fans/pundits for doing something that was called for by fans/pundits in the first place which is of course unfair but doesn't change the above.
