I study players not systems and here is what I think. Most modern payers now wont put their head in where it hurts , Hernandes goes up and jumps at the man and uses his back or shoulder to protect himself if its a one and one heading chance. So many players week, after week do this especially Champ and Prem , all worried about their looks . But to be honest years ago kids got roughed up in the street and parks playing football and could take the knocks , now they spend all week on the PS 'S and dont have the natural bottle needed. Hernandes is lazy , his ball control is not ''easy'' and I have said before only scores when it is easy. Aluko , don't ever tell me he has done ''ok '' in a match, he never scores , cant ever see a pass , has no brains never looks up and never makes the right choice, Meyler , who actually is technically reasonable only looks in front of him never to the sides., although he does move into the box following up. If a 'senior player does not become a 'regular' in a team after two years by selection he will never be good enough, with the exception of managers who cannot either coach them or do not 'like' them then they should go. Our forwards are static ,physically lightweight , we start the season trying new corner routines etc and within a few weeks stop. Clucas and Robertson need ''bulking '' up we never do this to any player We dont ever appear to ''coach'' forwards Laws of physics 13 stone will win a ball off 11.5/12 stone 60% of the time or more in my book so look for a forward like this Gray, Austin etc are all like this and reasonable height too. Why cant our players move at angles , and we have looked our best when we go down the middle, because you can go in two directions , once our wingers are doubled up on we struggle , but if there are two on the wing stopping us there must be less in side why can t we exploit the inside space? I know this is broad and random but wonder what others think , cant just say Bruce out , way too simple
Match day thread!!! Dont run before you can walk. Hernandez and Ramirez are the only Uruguayans in history who are weak as piss, scared and not dirty bastards. Signing one is bad enough but to sign two!! knell that takes some doing.
my error new to this have I put this in wrong place , wasn't sure which thread to to select, and i am old enough to remember Rattin, 66
The problem with Abel is he gets the ball hoofed Upto him and he's no one to head the ball to even if he wins the bloody thing! He backs in trying to either shield the ball onto his chest or just to make a nuisance of himself hoping the defender makes a mistake! If we played regularly with 2 up top then they'd get an understanding and maybe the headers would be won & utilised?
Hard to disagree with any of that. Why don't you post more? Think it was Boxing day, we had Robbo doing these diagonal runs into the box. Scared the ****e out of the defenders and was brilliant to watch. We seem too lateral to me. Diame does get stuck in when he can be arsed, although last night, 2 incredibly bad decisions by Mariner put paid to that.
Thanks for the support and the good points in response only started posting because i like proper discussion about technique , method skills weaknesses etc, not the Allams , all the things that discussing football should be about , its so easy to say a player or manager is s*** etc Clucas was knackered after 70 mins, Diame cant have been far off , as the game opened up later on altho I am not convinced about sulky Chuba, him and Hernandes could have maybe stretched Boro on the break- more pace than Diame could offer
Against MK we played 2 out & out strikers, then drop one then both, instead of persevering for the following 2 games. How are they ever going to get an understanding together of they don't ****ing play together?
Some good points here. I don't agree though that it's especially common in modern footballers. We just always sign these wimpy ones.
Very good post but your profile doesn't give any information about you. You could be a 13 year old netballer for instance or like Mr Hat a 16 year old Girl. We have problems with the team at the moment as they do not appear to be very cohesive judging by the way they swear at each other during the match. A Manager of Steve Bruce's calibre together with his team of advisers will take every game as it comes and select tactics and players with whom they believe they will get us a result. Recently the plans have gone pear-shaped but I believe this to be a combination of a number of adverse circumstances which has culminated in some poor performances costing us valuable points. We certainly do not have a very 'physical' attack and whereas Hernandez has been prolific at this level my opinion of our 'strike-force' in general has been well documented on these boards. Welcome aboard.
Thing is Rattin and his Argentinian teammates had the skill to play good football but chose to kick chunks out of their opponents, much like a lot of South American club games at the time, a trait the Italian's employed a few years later.
If we win, that team will invariably start the next game, regardless of who the opposition are and what different issues they present. And if things aren't working, this high calibre manager and his team of advisors have absolutely **** all idea what to do about. Our substitutions would be better if the crowd could text vote who should come off and who should come on.
When you post a thread, you have the option to put a tag at the front of it, for example Match day Thread. Over time these have taken some significance on for some. Now, if we see Match day Thread as the tag, the majority of forum users expect a badly put together, halfassed attempt at a thread, which this is clearly not. As a new arrival, best advice is if it's not about football, choose off topic, otherwise, just don't choose anything and you'll be reet. If all you're interested in is football, just ignore all the other noise on the forum, and ignore anyone being an arsehole. Mostly they'll be doing it for attention or cos they think they're funny. Don't respond and they'll get bored.
Yes, I acknowledge your 'tongue-in-cheek' reply but he has stated on many occasions at press conferences that 'we' (he and his team) made certain selections in an effort to counteract the opposition and didn't he say yesterday that he was 'told' that Hernandez was 'tired and leggy' (whatever the kinell that means) so 'we' left him out of the original starting line up. He wouldn't be in the position he is if he had "****all idea what to do"! Watching the team yesterday I was concerned at the way they were abusing each other and the lack of cohesion. Very disappointing.
One point that needs making on here which you just bring up is that Bruce has made the same mistake with Clucas that he did with Meyler earlier in the season in wearing the lad out by not giving him a proper rest, i.e. rotating the squad better. People are slating the lad for his performance but like you say he was completely spent early in the second half. I agree about bulking him and Robertson out too, they are too lightweight by far, and also the general theme of 6 foot fairy strikers which dates back with us to Caleb Folan if not earlier than him
