I haven't had the luxury of speaking to everyone, but there certainly seem to be a few that are almost bi-polar, deciding stay or go on results, rather than performance.
Don't think there are many in that category. Most of us have consistently wanted him gone for most of the season. I think January was the only month we relented because he finally seemed to have sorted tactics and was winning games.
Relented is different from wanting him to stay, it just meant we stopped going on about it after most games. I haven't changed my opinion all season that I wanted him gone at the end of the season, even during January.
I agree some blow hot and cold. I haven't. I've been behind him since day 1. I'm now changing my mind. Yes, based on results. What else would you base it on? I've constantly said, the entire time I've been old enough to watch a game that Id rather see a scrappy 1-0 win than an exciting loss, regardless of score. With a couple of exceptions, sure, we tried hard yesterday, but ultimately failed to do the thing that wins games, i.e. score. This has been a common theme in recent games, and I don't see it changing. Boro did not set up to just defend, it was end to end stuff. We should have scored. We had our 2 best chances at scoring on the bench until the last 15 mins. Even out of form, that's bonkers. I get totally why he started Aluko, I really do, but it was obvious after 30 mins he needed to come off. Half time the changes should have come, we shoulda been in their faces with Abel and Akpom. Bruce left it to the end of the game, when it was simply too late. I've also been a huge advocate of the players need to step up, I still believe that, I still believe they share responsibility. I just think maybe Bruce has run out of ideas, and we all need a change. Also for the record, promotion to the PL is good for the club, would almost certainly mean higher gates, and us being sold. Stayin in the Championship is good for us as fans who stick by the team. More wins. More fun.
Yes, some do blow hot and cold. I haven't. I've poo pooed him since day 1. I've just read your post over 3 times to make sure I read it right. Started a fourth but got distracted by a pig flying over the house.
I'd always rather go on performance, even most of the time when we got results this season we only played well for maybe 20 minutes or a half at most. And the argument gets brought up that if we didn't play well and won that must be good, but of course that's a false argument because playing below par will eventually catch up with you.
Staying in the Championship means more of our best players leaving in the summer, fewer wins and probably mid table. This season might well be our only chance for a long time of going up.
Your right, but unless I'm mistaken is it only Aluko, Elmo and Tom who are out of contract now come the Summer?
Others would leave for a fee. Robertson. I can see Hernandez going for something now he's had a good season. Snodgrass might have convinced some clubs that his knee is OK. Dawson?
I've always preferred the championship, I like to see us attack and winning games. But we hve a solid foundation this time with the players we hve and can go up with a solid footing, ready to do some real business in the top flight. All we need is a manager who dares use the players to their potential and actually have a go at teams. If we had a team and manager capable of having a real go in the premiership, it would be obviously be more fun than the championship, despite the soulless stadia. That point stands whatever division we're in. As it is we hardly have a go at any team, no matter how strong or weak they are. If Bruce stays I'd much rather be in the championship, this season has been ****e but the two preceding it were ****ing dire. Backs to the wall defending a 0-0 against Burnley at home and losing, typical of the manager.
I agree really, he seemed to have finally figured out how to get us going before it ground to a halt again. I was happy enough for him to have the chance to take us back up initially but after a few months it seemed like we were getting by more through luck than judgement. I've been impressed lately with him leaving Hernandez out, to be honest I hope he is on the bench again tonight so he does get it completely right sometimes
