Despite how awesome Dortmund are, I'm always gonna wonder how we'd have got on if we'd played our strongest 11 in both games. They are a top class team, but we are so much more capable of causing them problems. We've had no target man in either game to give their defence anything to think about. At times we've just invited pressure, and a team like Dortmund are always going to capitalise on that.
I know we've got the premier league to think about too, but if we are in the CL next season, it would have been nice to have seen how we'd shape up at full strength against one of the best.

They are better.
Pochettino at the least should be taking from tonight that the pressing
can be done even faster than he has had Spurs doing in the PL this season.

 

Son's got to hit the target there, but how is that not a yellow for the pullback on Lamela?

 

I'm not denying that they are better.
But having Harry Kane to worry about and dembele to play alongside Dier protecting the back 4 would have made this so different. We may well still be losing, but I bet it wouldn't be by 4.
Attack starts from defence and their defence hasn't had to get out of first gear or had a worry in 135mins of football. They must have been licking their lips again tonight knowing that they didn't have to worry about Kane.

 

Another decent delivery from Lamela that nobody gets on the end of.
His set-pieces have been a lot better than Eriksen's this season.
It's typical that we end up needing a great bit of defending from Alderweireld to avoid conceding again, though.

 

Coutinho equalises for Liverpool and probably ends that tie.

 

Is there any way we can just declare and call it a day? No point risking fatigue or injury with another 45 minutes. I'd be amazed in in 3 months' time we aren't reflecting on going out to the overall winners.
