Goalkeepers: Jack Butland (Stoke City), Fraser Forster (Southampton), Joe Hart (Manchester City).

Defenders: Ryan Bertrand (Southampton), Gary Cahill (Chelsea), Nathaniel Clyne (Liverpool), Phil Jagielka (Everton), Danny Rose (Tottenham Hotspur), Chris Smalling (Manchester United), John Stones (Everton), Kyle Walker (Tottenham Hotspur).

Midfielders: Dele Alli (Tottenham Hotspur), Ross Barkley (Everton), Eric Dier (Tottenham Hotspur), Danny Drinkwater (Leicester City), Jordan Henderson (Liverpool), Adam Lallana (Liverpool), James Milner (Liverpool), Raheem Sterling (Manchester City).

Forwards: Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur), Daniel Sturridge (Liverpool), Jamie Vardy (Leicester City), Theo Walcott (Arsenal), Danny Welbeck (Arsenal).

    Clubs represented in the squad:
    • Tottenham and Liverpool: 5 players
    • Everton: 3
    • Man City, Leicester, Arsenal and Southampton: 2
    • Chelsea, Man Utd and Stoke: 1
    -----------------------------------------------------------

Good to see Danny finally included, whether he plays or not remains to be seen but Hodgson has pissed about for too long by not including him enough. The other four are also deserving of their spots.

Scott Dann still doesn't make it despite a solid season, yet Smalling and Cahill who've been borderline ****e plus Jagielka who only recently returned from injury get selected. Would also have Shawcross over the latter three.

    Drinkwater gets a deserved call.

No Azza despite being in great form for Everton.

Sturridge and Walcott included despite one barely featuring this season and the other doing **** all for club and often being utilised from the bench.

Glad they are getting recognition ... just hoping they don't get injured!

A game to play. Using the following themes :

    1. Current form (is temporary)
    2. Are class (is permanent) .
    3. One for the future

which of that squad does none of the above apply to ??

Stones has probably had the worst form of the centre-halves.
    Certainly worse than Dann's.
    Should be in the U21s.

Stones seems to be the hype and has stopped trying to learn...He looks like he thinks he's a complete player.
I might be wrong but that's how he comes across to me

Smalling and Walcott in my opinion. Cahill could also be added, though his winning pedigree at Chelsea (bar this season) works in his favour. Welbeck and Sturridge are good players but way too injury prone so it's a tough call, plus, with Deeney & Defoe aside, there's not many options available to add to Kane and Vardy.

Completely skipped past Stones for some reason, agree about the U21s. Though I suppose the sheer fact he's young and should progress - despite being benched at Everton of late - works in favour of selecting him, not that it's necessarily justifiable to pick solely based on potential.

Everton seem to concede less when he doesn't play! Still, as a pundits favourite he must be the best thing since sliced bread surely.

Who else in the squad has Dann outperformed?

I'm quite surprised Michail Antonio wasn't included. I was very impressed by him when they played us and he's apparently improving game on game. Definitely would've put him in there instead of one of the Liverpool midfielders - none of whom are particularly good - and all of whom offer you much of a muchness in terms of style or lack thereof.

Let's hope we're in free scoring mode as the centre halves, look dodgy.
    You can say that again.

Just trying to think of anyone who can feel a little aggrieved that he hasn't made it in.
Cresswell, Albrighton, Noble and Deeney are the most obvious ones, I guess.
Not sure how many of them I would've picked, though.

As with most people. I was struggling to identify the anonymous nobody stood next to Wayne Rooney.

Google told me it's Jordan Ibe.

Just when I thought we'd seen the last of Gerrard, Lampard and Rooney, there's the still one still pictured. *sigh*
