I had one mate jump off the Causey Arch bridge.
It's claimed many over the years including the man that built it.

Another pal of mine jumped off the Erskine Bridge over the River Clyde.
It's so high, you'd be dead before you hit the watter.

The upward trend of suicides, (which is still in decline in the long term analysis) started circa 2007-2008 around the time of the global recession.

Blaming the gov't for suicides is too simplistic for me, banks are just as much to blame, as are people who refuse to acknowledge the risks of what they eat, smoke, drink, drugs they take and irresponsible financial behaviour such as gambling and taking out risky loans.

It's far too easy to say NHS cuts are the reason for suicides, many people have access to treatment and it makes absolutely no difference to them, many people also don't look for help.

Sunday night mate...It looked touch and go for a few minutes with a couple of passers by holding on, but he seemed to climb over without help when the police arrived..

Is this the very same global recession that the Tories and their media darlings blamed on the Labour government at the time..

It was related to the thread because my comments that the suicide rates are on the rise again since the government cuts that predominantly affect those least to cope were seen as political bias on my part..

    Fair enough, I think.

You may think differently if you studied nutrition as much as you study politics. Why people continue to digest chemicals not safe for human consumption and refuse to take in the required nutrients for optimum human functionality, is beyond me. You're told you need 5 a day, not because it's fun to eat veg, but because your body needs these nutrients and enzymes to function properly.

People ignore this, they eat 5 packs of crisps and think that's the equivalent. Pre-packaged food which contains all kinds of unnatural preservatives, being shoveled down people's throats because they think the human body may have evolved to thrive off crap. It hasn't. It never will.

Their thyroid goes (for example), they develop hormone imbalances and they end up ****ed in the head and several years of struggle later chucking themselves off a bridge and the gov't gets the blame for not having enough support groups for them to go and all hold hands at. Bullshit.

This obviously doesn't apply to everybody, not everybody kills themselves because they're ill either, like I said it's not one person or thing's fault.

Of course every individual case is different, but stats can highlight trends, and you can then correlate these stats and trends to highlight a relationship..

And you can manipulate these stats to make it look like you're doing a good job. I should know, I was paid a fortune to do it.

I certainly agree that stats can be used in different ways and selectively, and often are. However, that was certainly not my goal on this thread, and for me it is a no-brainer that current government policy of attacking those at the bottom of the economic ladder will result in despair.

Equally, education and poor parenting are to blame.

If kids are taught the dangers of things like Red Bull and gambling and how to manage money for example, in stead of how many times a Muslim person goes to Mosque or what Jesus did to help blind people see, then there'd be less suicides in my opinion.

If parents didn't raise kids who think it's cool to be a bully, maybe there'd be less kids hanging themselves.

Maybe the cuts are to blame for a portion of them, the same as spending too much money on stupid things by labour has failed these same people. Waste.

Well you've highlighted the whole sentence and the question could apply to either half of it, I'm gonna go with the 2nd part, as it's you.

No, I mean £25bn+ on stupid computer systems that never worked. <ok>

The Labour government were in power when the biggest spread of internet access took place. I'm not sure about the actual figures of costs, but I do know that their investment enabled a hell of a lot of people to get online who would otherwise have been excluded.

Ok RAW, we're off the beaten track now. Labour never wasted any money, everything was the Tory's fault. <ok>
