I agree but I think that'll come in time. Less than 2 years into the Poch project and look where we are. He doesn't see us being anywhere near the finished article. Still loads to work on and improve
2-0 FT. By far the better team and fairly comfortable in the end, but too much pissing about. Need to be more clinical and learn not to switch off when the opposition aren't offering much. We've dropped too many points to teams making attacking subs when that happens. Stoke and Newcastle spring to mind immediately.
Maybe the Euro hangover stopped Spurs scoring what should have been a 0-4 or 0-5. A full second half to score more and didn't against bottom club Villa, think about it.
A win. Citeh draw, an extra game for the Spammers and Utd, Chelsea and the Gooners out of the cup. Life's sweet. Come on the Geordies!
After a disappointing 10 days, and at this stage of the season a win is a win, puts a bit of pressure on Leicester for tomorrow and lets hope for the Rafa factor to get at least a draw! 8 more 2-0s and we might be champions!
Job done, but my real concern (as everyone is saying) is the repeated faffing about in the last 20 mins when on paper the game is over. Pochettino has to be doing a Fergie on the squad if they are to win the PL.
Our record with/without him in the team is something crazy like we win 3 times as many games with him playing as without.
The team bounced back well, again. It's a big win because it means we're in the hunt for the title for at least another week. The good news is we have as settled an 11 as we've had all year. The big signing of three years ago is clearly a better fit for us now than our big signing of last summer. It's not surprising that Lamela looks very comfortable playing various roles making Pochettino's system go, while Son does not. I loved how Lamela found Alli in space, then passed up a slightly better shot to leave it for Kane on the second goal. Son doesn't get one touch passing as the default option so far, over and beyond anything else. He keeps trying to dribble when he should be moving the ball to the right man. Perhaps as a result of losing confidence, he also doesn't always get the ball towards the goal ASAP. With an offseason to practice, he should be much better for us.
Cheers for posting the goals as ever @Inda I missed the game so hadn't seen the goals but knew I'd be able to find them here.
Really looking forward to the Dembele compilation for this season. He's been majestic. I can't seem to find it on Google but ages ago I read about a book on set-plays (might have been on here that I saw it) and how a coach swore it got his team an extra 10 goals a year? Does anyone know what I mean? Want to check that out again (and check that I'm not just delusional...)
Very good team performance, which was somewhat needed and expected after the display against Dortmund. Thought Lamela and Walker were superb while Kane and Alli showed their class yet again. Dier and Dembele were also great in the centre, Dembele has been so majestic this season it's been a real treat to watch while Dier just continues to snuff out 80% of opposition attacks which gives the defence a much easier day. As for the defence itself, they were back to looking solid bar that spell near the end of the game where Villa really should've hit the back of the net after Gestede hitting the bar and Lescott the post. A realistic result should've been about 5-2 but a wins a win and 2-0 is perfect for me. In the end it's a much needed 3 points after disappointing results against West Ham and Arsenal, hopefully Newcastle can help us out a bit tonight, I don't actually like relying on other teams to help Spurs but needs must. There's going to be games left where Leicester, us, Arsenal and City slip up so it's just down to who can really capitalise on it and make the final push for the league title. COYS! Yeah that's very true about Son, not having a pre-season with your new team always makes it harder to settle but what disappoints me is that his first few weeks with us prior to his injury, he looked superb and seemed to have slotted straight in, then on his return I can't think of many moments where he's looked even half as good as his early spell, the Leicester replay in the FA Cup is the only game post-injury where I think he looked as good as he was pre-injury and really stood out, there's been some OK performances either side too but generally I've been left thinking he could've done much better. That said there's no doubting he's a class player and I'm sure next season, like most new signings, he'll look much better.
I hope Newcastle help us a lot rather than a bit. Lets hope Rafa can spur them into their best result of the season.
I think this shows that we must move quickly in the summer to both identify and sign our new additions so that they have a full pre-season and are are better prepared to fit into the team plan and ethic. Young, hungry (obviously talented!) and maybe premier league experienced being the requirements, and hopefully we won't lose anyone (fazio apart) so should only need 2 or 3 to just fill the gaps we all know exist
