Almost certainly suicide..It is very difficult to fall over there by accident...
There and Wearmouth Bridge seem to be having a hell of a lot more jumpers now than in the past..

My opinion. A lot of this is down to the glib, smug, oily, shiftless I'm - all - right tories (no capital T for those evil selfish bastards).

The party - not the stupid voters - have the wherewithall to ride out the savage cuts to mental health and social funds that affect ordinary people. Then, to add to this, they are determined to make the northeast of England a bleak economic wasteland.

They should replace the signs on the M1 that say "The North" to "Abandon all hope ye who enter here"

    Bastards

ps. Yes. I've just opened my second bottle of red.

Bit unfair there BBP, after all they have to balance the books like a good tory party is destined to do and suffering people are fair game to achieve that via cuts in benefits and NHS services. Why can they not lock them away like what the tories do with theirs..

government cuts to the needy and the disabled is undoubtedly driving a far greater number of people to commit suicide..

Says you. But the post was about one tragic life lost at Marsden RAW.

Now's not the time to be scoring political points without the full facts.

You're biased RAW. Nowt wrong with that. But I'm betting a statistician could rip your facts apart.

I'm not doubting you mate. I'm just saying, now's not the time.

A bit confused over these 2 year old twins drowning in their fish pond.

    Anyone else read the story?

I study stats a lot mate and that is where I got the info regarding suicide being on the increase since austerity measures came into force. The stats also show that the North East is the worst region in the country for the number of suicides per head of population with London being the lowest..

It's the fact that they have both died at the same time and in the same way which set alarm bells ringing for me..

Remember the suicide thread last year?

It was epic and sad. The amount on this board alone that have been affected was chilling.

With working at night between the universities City Campus and St Peter's Campus, it is incredible how many bridge jumpers, or those threatening to jump we come across. We had one earlier and called the police, but thankfully they were persuaded to climb back over the barrier. There is one actually jumped a couple of weeks ago but survived the 100ft drop into the water with what turned out to be nothing more than bruising and a punctured lung.
We got some interesting info back from the hospital regarding jumpers that survived, and apparently every single one of them (100%) said they regretted doing it as soon as they went over..

Yesterday or Saturday? Ive heard about a possible jumper.

Some miss the water, then there's no chance.

Marsdens always been a popular place along with the bridge.

Not a lot of thinking time once you've let go. 2-3 seconds?

Unlike them poor ****ers in the twin towers. Jump or burn.
