Could we not temp him with european football next season, he´d be a fantastic signing if you ask me. I can´t see him staying at Everton.

Not a hope in hell! Even if we win the league a lot of players will still see us as a flash in the pan and will chose the likes of Chelsea, Pool etc over us as a long term thing. Plus we won't compete wages wise. That said it would be nice though!

... we can compete wages wise with Everton ... but they will be looking for £50 m as a transfer fee which will narrow down the field of potential suitors to the very biggest clubs (in terms of finance) ...

As FF said, he will cost north of £50M

We have Leonardo Ulloa anyway, why do we need another big man <whistle>

He is only 22 as well - is rediculous how good he already is and is one of the main reasons why Belgium are currently ranked #1 in the world.

There was nothing to win last year - maybe they have peaked at the wrong time in between tournaments but I doubt it and I hope I get them in the Euro sweepstake at work.

The rankings are based on current form not past glories - by that reckoning Greece should be ranked one of the best teams in the world because they won the Euros once even though they have only won one game in the last 2 years.

Lost ranking games - is like Tennis in that the more you win when it matters, the better the ranking and Germany have lost to lower ranked sides.

Is the downside of rankings - it rewards consistency but then again I would bet on Belgium beating Germany right now.

Belgium looked like England did a few years ago

Full of superstars who couldnt play together and relied on individual brilliance to win tight games rather then teamwork

After the world cup, the Belgium manager had the balls to drop the likes of Felleni and Benteke and actually pick a team that can play together and have reaped the rewards.

Unfortunately our FA is more concerned about commercialisation rather then the actual football hence why the likes of Gerrard & Lampard were always picked even thought they couldn't play together as they sold a lot of shirts and Rooney will always be picked as he is the main draw when they hold their money spinning friendlies in Dubai etc.

The best 2 England players this century are easily David Beckham and Michael Owen. Both carrier a poor England team further then Rooney ever has

Rooney dragged England through Euro 2004 and he was about 20.

It's a shame he has dropped off so rapidly.

He's played over 650 career games. Perhaps he's feeling it a bit?

He is no longer the player he once was - Fergie knew what he was doing playing him as a midfielder as he has lost that step that can take him past an opponent so would be best providing the passes to the advanced striker.

Problem is that he doesn't accept that hence why we see Vardy playing on the left wing for England.
