Comm mentioned these on a thread earlier today -so I thought I'd start a thread about them. They have been mentioned today on the Web - these vehicles are going to be let loose on our motorways next year and in the recent news that an autonomous car collided with a bus in the US! How do you feel -the prospect of being chauffeured about in one of these in the near future ? How do you feel about owning one within the next decade? The projected sales of these Annual sales of self-driving cars worldwide — including those that require some driver input — will balloon from 230,000 in 2025 to 11.8 million by 2035, the study predicts. That would result in a cumulative total of 54 million self-driving cars in use around the in just over 20 years. Judging by some of technological crashes and failures that I've experienced over the last few decades- I'm not so sure I'd be comfortable with the thought of reading a book or even God forbid with my feet up chatting to my missus whilst being hurtled down a motorway with a multitude of 'like-minded' automated boxes on wheels being steered by via satellite through a antenna.
another twenty years or so the law will be you'll traverse in one of these I reckon, manual cars will be gone from the roads - I agree no fun at all, especially so if you like driving
How would the drink driving thing work.? If you are pissed but the car is driving itself. How would it know to stop for the coppers?
Presumably they have sensors to keep them from hitting/getting too close to vehicle in front -- guessing would work on stopping distances. In which case, the A1 queue to get to Metro Centre the Saturday before Xmas is going to go back to Leeds !
If you can't programme them to ignore yellow lines, white lines, other peoples drives and the no parking on the pavement rule, lots of poor kids will have to actually walk the last 50 yards to school. Will Stephen Fletcher sell his Ferrari, because surely there'll be no speeding possible ?
the mega rich and celebs of the day will purchase automated flying cars that can speed and park anywhere
Can it be any worse than some of the ****ing incompetent lunatic drivers kicking about now. My problem with driving is 100% the humans. Putting your trust and life in hundreds of thousands of people you don't even know. I walk everywhere and I'm guaranteed to see at least one driver who looks hell bent on killing someone every time I walk somewhere. Am I scared of Driverless cars? No more than the manned ones at the moment.
When I were a lad, got up before going to bed and hopped on one leg 50 miles to school, kids today, don't know they're born.
I wonder how soon the 100 club will start Imagine shagging in the back seat at 100mph p.s. **** the 160 club (kph)
Nowt new to Billy It's what he says every time I go to pick him up. Only kidding - he's not that brave - or stupid - maybe
