Great post. It sums up why we have been poor without Long. He is the only one running into channels and creating space, and then actually holding it up. (Although Austin was as well in the Chelsea game to a certain extent, but wasn't match sharp.) But really, our overall play is so static. Romeu is the only midfielder that looks to drive between the lines.
With no Tadic, we have absolutely no creativity

In some games I've actually seen attacking players, in space, walk and stand in front of the defender, whilst waiting for a throw in to be taken. Seriously I have!

It would be nice if we had a player who could throw the ball further than 20 yards, and give us more options at throw ins.

I was always taught that if a person was man marked to put the ball into space preferably behind the marker. With speed of mane and long they will easily out run most defences. They don't seem to be able to work a two on one scenario. IE getting two defenders on the inside of our attackers creating the hole behind. I'm probably not making sense as I can't find the right words but that is what we used to be taught. Agreed though that was in the days of 5321 formation...<laugh>

Works perfectly if there's a Vlaar around!

All we need is good movement. Why we get is one player showing to receive it and play it straight back to the thrower.

Throw ins we were taught to pass back to the thrower.......George Horsfall used to pull his hair out if it was thrown to me because more often than not I would turn and run with it and get away with it as I was nippy in those days.
I gather though that is still how they are coached today. Is that correct guys?

If it is near the box (ish) I was always taught to have 2 or 3 different routines of movement that could open up space and maybe create a chance.

Today Beddy it seems George must be the throw-in coach still :)

Is this a rumour? Has he recovered? Are we signing him?

    More importantly, where's your link?
