It didn't help when he came off after a game shortly after joining us and told the players they were a disgrace to football.
If my memory serves me right wasn't that was Carlisle team that went from the 4th division to the 1st and back again in consecutive seasons.
The crowd picture is not taken before that game, that is my point. Look up that Carlisle fixture again and you will find the attendance was around the 20,000 mark and probably less. I post from memory not from Chris Eltons book.
They didn't do it in consecutive seasons No, your memory doesn't serve you right. Carlisle didn't do that. The nearest to achieving that was Northampton who went from Division4 to Division 1 in five seasons, it took, two seasons to get out of Division 3, and went back from Division 1 to Division 4 in consecutive seasons a total of 9 seasons.
Sorry I never saw your post. I knew that crowd picture wasn't taken before a league with Carlisle Utd which was why I posted. I may be getting mixed up with the Carlisle fixture and the first home game of the 66/67 season was against Coventry ? I knew we didn't get a big crowd, by that periods standards v Carlisle and my guess of 20,000 was only 1,000 out. And I was there.
First game of the 66/67 season was against Coventry away at Highfield Rd. Second match was home to Bury.
Every self respecting Hull City fan has got Chris Eltons book. It was written and published before we started winning so it might have eluded you.
Probably, seeing as I'm one of these not606 half and half scarf wearing twenty-somethings that you despise so much.
